Welcome back my friends, to the continuing adventures of our beloved American Patriot with an accent and officially named Pest of Zion, Seva Brodsky. Another week, another counter-demonstration.

You've been with us through the grabbing in Mayhem at the Defend Hizballah Rally!, and bathed yourself after Gobbed by the Peaceniks -- Report from the "Support Lebanon" Rally. Now we have a different kind of report for you, a little less confrontational this time. Let peace, understanding and dialog reign...besides, the police kept everyone to their separate sides of the street.

Our intrepid counter-protesters were out last Friday (yes, I'm a little late in posting this) at another Justice for Lebanon Rally at Boston's Copley Square. It was a beautiful afternoon, in more ways than one as you shall see.

Police presence was heavier this time than at past events, and, as mentioned, were diligent in "suggesting" that the two sides stay the hell away from each other. Before things got rolling, however, our friend Seva was able to go on over and mingle with the crowd. Let's jump right in with some video, in which Seva has an encounter with his old nemesis, The Spitter, or The Gobber...you'll recognize him:

There is a benefit to running a terror army in a fear society where no one dares investigate your claims too closely. You can just deny that you're taking any casualties, and some people will believe you. Running gun-battles in Lebanese villages, Israeli soldiers wounded and killed...and almost no military casualties on the other side. Amazing [as always, click any thumbnail for a larger version]:

Life is good among the counter-protesters. Seva and friends:

Let's have two takes on that:

Peekaboo from the other side of the street:

Let's get back to our side of the street, quick:

Here's video of an impassioned Israeli fellow giving an interview to a reporter. He was talking for quite a while, but I've just extracted a representative portion of it. Note the themes he hits, and this is typical...no hatred for Lebanese, no desire to harm innocent people, just a wish that they would help Israel clear their region of the scourge of terror.

Poor fellow spent a long time talking to this reporter, little did he know that she was actually a "reporter" for IndyMedia [see: 4th Boston Justice for Lebanon Rally -- Seva responds to the article in the feedback there]. I mean, c'mon, that's lower than blogging. There's fifteen minutes of the guy's life he'll never get back...and all to be quoted for the consumption of black-clad, dorm-dwelling, parent-hating youngsters and a few older-types who still live in their parents' basements at the age of 40 (or should).

Finally, here's a bit of a montage. One protester crosses the street and dialog (and sticker swapping) ensues, then one of the organizers comes over and gets Seva's email address (c'mon buddy, you knew how to spell "Seva"), Seva admits that the other side is a mixed crowd...and then a bit of a sad ending...

Seva reports that there were up to about 20 counter-protesters there, though they came and went.

Congratulations once again to all those folks (I'd post more pics of the counter-protest, but this is about all I have) who turned out and showed the colors. All the best to all those potential friends in Lebanon who would stand against Hizballah if they could.

Bonus feature! The Jewish Advocate has a piece in its current issue discussing these protests and the Russians who tend to form the core of the counter-protesters. This blog is mentioned (I am quoted), as is our friend Greg at JR Telegraph: Russian Jews do battle with Israel foes at Boston rallies

When it came to speaking up for the Jewish state at several rallies protesting Israel’s offensive in Lebanon this summer, one group was especially well represented at the barricades: members of Boston’s Russian Jewish community.

This mobilizing effort represents a marked contrast with mainstream Jewish agencies that often organize their own Israel solidarity rallies rather than assert themselves as a reactive counter presence...

The young man from Haifa really was articulate, and of course made total sense to me. I am unable to access the indimedia story so I don't know what kind of spin the "reporter" put on his words. Just possibly though, she walked away with something to think about. Let's hope so...

You should be able to see the Indymedia link. I changed it so maybe it will work now.

Your link now goes to Seva's response rather than to the original Indymedia article, which is here.

I "fixed" it again (I hope) -- this time to the page I intended, which was the article with comments included.

Great coverage, Sol, and truly sobering to watch the workings of what I have called "fear society lite" right here in our own backyard.

I'm reminded of the words of Jeffrey Gedmin -- director of the Aspen Institute in Berlin -- in an interview on "Experiencing European Anti-Americanism and Anti-Israelism," where he explained why some Europeans who don't necessarily buy into "the double standards, bias and moral relativism of the continent's 'intellectual elite'" nevertheless don't speak up:

"They remain silent because they are cowards, and they want to be liked and to see what the group thinks."

I took the liberty of compiling a list of relevant URL links related to this material. For the benefit of those who might be interested in exploring this further, here is the list, in no particular order (although there is a method to this madness):

2) HTML is on, so basic html should work. Raw links will be made auto-clickable, too, so even if you don't know html you can just paste in the link and it should work fine. Keep the "http://" in it.

3) Comments are generally unmoderated, which means I don't necessarily agree with the tone and tenor of everything posted. In fact, sometimes people post things they don't really mean just to make other people look bad. The internet is an anonymous place for the most part. That said...

4) I welcome you to post here. I'd love to have your input, agree, disagree or just offer a different data point, really. If I didn't want any participation, I'd turn off comments. It may pay to recall a famous line from the Tom Selleck magnum opus, Mr. Baseball: "Jack-san, you want Yoji's advice about the babes, you come to Yoji with respect."

5) Enjoy your stay!

"Arab nationalism is secular in the sense that it does not derive its political legitimacy from divine revelation, but it is an absolutism nonetheless, enshrining the idea of the eternal and the unchanging not in an omnipotent creator but in the nation."
