I think it worthwhile to note that of the French citizens leaving Europe, 14,000 are French Jews. While some of that immigration may be due to economics, the huge number of Jews would indicate a much deeper problem, and that is the increase in anti-Semitic attacks, particularly in France. The transition to Eurabia may be occurring faster than most realize.

There are 400,000 French in the UK, mainly in London, they go there for the work. When the economy picks up many French living abroad will return, it's economic migration, it happens all the time in many countries. I won't comment on the UK situation as I don't live there. No doubt many French are unhappy with the recent carry on of some of their darker skinned fellow citizens, but the people who suffer this carry on the most have neither the skill set nor the money to up and leave.

The cause of a lot of the Jewish migration is anti-semitism no doubt about that, it can be quite nasty, I am sure you are aware of the Lille cemetery event not long ago. That said, France can be a comfortable place.

I'll bet my last quatloo on this: Many more French will leave if Sarkozy is elected.

Quatloo bet on the potential newcomer noted!

I don't know if many Frenchmen will leave if Sarkozy gets elected. He is of the mainstream, Gaullist right, even if he has made a couple of provocative statements. And the Gaullists have been part of the welfare-state consensus in France.

In any case, many Frenchmen may protest loudly but take some quiet comfort in Sarkozy, since he might be saying out loud what many of them think. I don't have the impression that Segolene Royal (the Socialist candidate) inspires many people.
