The anti-Zionist Left's favorite out of context quoted historian writes for German publication Die Welt about a very bleak future. An English translation is available here: The second Holocaust will not be like the first

Here's the intro:

Benny Morris believes that the Iranian regime will annihilate Israel with nuclear weapons, and nobody will stop it in doing so. Morris used to have the reputation of being an Anti-Zionist, but he rejects the accusation that he questions Israel's right of existence. In this article written for DIE WELT, Morris explains why he is convinced that sometime in the future millions of Israelis will be murdered.

Morris hits a pivotal paragraph here:

...As with the first, the second Holocaust will have been preceded by decades of preparation of hearts and minds, by Iranian and Arab leaders, Western intellectuals and media outlets. Different messages have gone out to different audiences - but all have (objectively) served the same goal, the demonization of Israel. Muslims the world over have been taught: 'The Zionists\the Jews are the embodiment of evil' and 'Israel must be destroyed.' And Westeners, more subtly, were instructed: 'Israel is a racist oppressor state' and 'Israel, in this age of multi-culturalism, is an anachronism and superfluous'. Generations of Muslims and at least a generation of Westerners have been brought up on these catechisms.

The build-up to the second Holocaust (which, incidentally, in the end, will probably claim roughly the same number of lives as did the first) has seen an international community fragmented and driven by separate, selfish appetites - Russia and China obsessed with Muslim markets; France, with Arab oil - and the United States driven by the debacle in Iraq into a deep isolationism. Iran has been left free to pursue its nuclear destiny and Israel and Iran, to face off alone...

The demonization of Israel has served several different purposes in East and West. The Muslim world is psyching itself up to do something terrible, and the West is preparing itself to accept it.

I say that if the US, India or Israel suffer a nuke attack, the "holy" cities of Mecca and the Kabba, Medina and Qom will be utterly destroyed in retailiation.

That response should be factored in by the islamofascists who dream of the destruction of tiny Israel.

Do islamofascists hate Israel more than they love Mecca and the Kabba?

Congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado has also said that if the US suffers a nuke attack, Mecca would be destroyed in retaliation. He refused to apologize as demanded by CAIR.

In large measure I'd have to agree with Morris's description of current events and general, social psychologies, even if I'd shade it in somewhat more cautionary and less definitive terms. Certainly, the demonization of Israel is perforce evident across a wide ranging scale and the adjacent link to Richard Baehr's Why Europe Abandoned Israel is all too regrettably apt as well.

In terms of basic moral failings across a seemingly broad range of publics, one might read, to note but one immediately accessible example only, the frivolous and even vapid moral and intellectually incurious qualities in the many five-star Amazon ratings accorded Carter's recently published volume. Though again, that is but one prominent tell-tale example only.

I wouldn't be put off by five-star Amazon ratings. Many highly partisan books will get lots of five-star ratings because they preach to the choir. It's usually the most politically committed who give the highest ratings without reserve. It's also usually the most politically committed who bother to write reviews in the first place. I've noticed that books that are diametrically opposed to each other will both have five-star reviews.

Anyone who wants to writes those reviews. So, Amazon cannot guarantee responses that are truly representative of the views of the public.

No, am not put off by the Amazon ratings per se in the least, they more simply serve as an accessible indicator of a dumbed down populism Carter is successfully trafficing in and serving to invigorate as well.

I saw Yossi Klein Halevi speak a few months ago and he said almost the same thing. Rather, that if Iran even gets the bomb it will be the end of Israel, because people will begin leaving in droves.

The latest english language translation from Matthias Küntzel's site is indicative in the same general framing, Hitler's Legacy: Islamic Antisemitism in the Middle East, as with virtually all of Kuntzel's reports, it's well documented and well written, extensive excerpt:

"[A] final example of this kind of statement comes from Mohammad Hassan Rahimian, the representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader, who stands even higher in the Iranian hierarchy than Ahmadinejad. On 16 November 2006 Rahimian declared that, “the Jew is the most stubborn enemy of the believers. And the decisive war will decide the fate of humanity… The reappearance of the twelfth Imam will usher in a war between Israel and the Shia.” [5]

"Many Western commentators ignore such pronouncements, because they are so crazy. But were Hitler’s speeches any less crazy? Hitler sincerely believed his propaganda and attempted, in his peculiar sense of the word, to “free” the world of the Jews by murdering them. Islamists too genuinely believe in their own hate-filled tirades. They celebrate suicide attacks on any and all Jews as “acts of liberation”.

"The fact that people who are not Islamists participate in this jubilation reveals a second similarity with the Nazi era. I am referring here to the impact of antisemitic brainwashing techniques, which have been refined since the days of Josef Goebbels.

"One of the instruments of this brainwashing is the Hizbollah satellite TV channel Al-Manar, which reaches millions of people in the Arab and Islamic worlds."

i think israel and its puppet america are just trying to scare its people and gain support for an invasion on iran.

also i would like to point out that a professor at ben-gurion university should know that the president of iran first of all doesnt control the iranian armed forces, and secondly ahmedinejad can only run for two 4 year terms in office.

besides maybe the jews should remember that it was us persians that freed them and allowed their religion to survive. is this the thanks we get for saving them?

"Cyrus," not to be polemical, but would the historic Cyrus II, c. 560 B.C.E., be speaking of such "puppets"? As to thanks, Cyrus II is honored in Hebrew history and literature for allowing the Hebrews, the Jews of that era, to return to and rebuild in Jerusalem. He would not have sponsored a Nasrallah figure and a puppet Hezbollah regime in southern Lebanon in order to fire rockets into Israeli civilian populations, to the contrary. Additionally, and very much on point, Cyrus II was particularly known for his humanity and in terms of policy, for his concern with human rights, also for his religious tolerance, both domestically, within his realm, and outside of his realm as well, as demonstrated by allowing the rebuilding of Jerusalem.

Too, Ahmadinejad, holding the office of President, does not control the armed forces, as established in Iran's constitution. Though the subject of Iran's constitution is itself interesting, having been established on Oct. 24, 1979, that's a date that should bring back some poignant memories. As to Iran's armed forces, the following, verbatim, directly from an english language translation of Iran's constitution, emphasis added:

An Ideological Army
In the formation and equipping of the country's defence forces, due attention must be paid to faith and ideology as the basic criteria. Accordingly, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps are to be organized in conformity with this goal, and they will be responsible not only for guarding and preserving the frontiers of the country, but also for fulfilling the ideological mission of jihad in God's way; that is, extending the sovereignty of God's law throughout the world (this is in accordance with the Koranic verse "Prepare against them whatever force you are able to muster, and strings of horses, striking fear into the enemy of God and your enemy, and others besides them" [8:60]).

That constitution, among others, can be found here.
