Demonizing the Jews on the Emerald Isle.

About 61 Irish academics from all over the world have called for a boycott of Israeli academic institutions "until Israel abides by UN resolutions and ends the occupation of Palestinian territories.”

The move marks the third attempt by European academics to shun their Israeli counterparts.

On September 12, the Irish Times published a letter signed by 61 academics urging academic institutions all over the world[?] to boycott Israeli institutions of higher education.

"There is widespread international condemnation of Israel's policy of violent repression against the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories, and its aggression against the people of Lebanon,” the letter read.

"We feel it is time to heed the Palestinian call to take practical action to pressure Israel to comply with international law and basic human rights norms. Many national and European cultural and research institutions, including those funded by the EU regard Israel as a European state for the purposes of awarding grants and contracts," it continued.

"We call for a moratorium on any further such support to Israeli academic institutions, at both national and European levels. We urge our fellow academics to support this moratorium by refraining, where possible, from further joint collaborations with Israeli academic institutions. Such a moratorium should continue until Israel abides by UN resolutions and ends the occupation of Palestinian territories," the academics concluded...

I've been railing about this for years! Israel IS the new South Africa..........

You can keep avoiding solving the problem or you can keep crying that criticism of Israel is anti-jew/demonisation etc etc.

Fact is Israel has the perception in the international community that it has screwed over its neighbours. Until the perception has been changed (i.e. no more cluster bombing runs, no more "we can do whatever we like cos the world is out to get us", no more torture, opression etc) it should perhaps give out the impression that it is sorry it has been such a nasty nation.

As for the jewish community (however you want to define it so that you separate Israel the state from the faith or the race or the state of mind that is "jewish") they should work on getting Israel to become a respected state in the world.

Chill,

Let me paraphrase what you said:

"She was raped because she was dressed provocatively. She had it coming. She shouldn't be crying about it, seeing as she made herself a target by her actions."

That's your mindset. That's the Left's mindset with regard to why Israel is hated and why 9/11 happened. That's the mindset of the Loser Generation of the 1960's, the opposite of the mindset of the Greatest Generation, which won World War II.

And now look. I didn't post this for you. I know, on the basis of exchanges with you here, that you're here for nothing but finding where you can post in such a way as to provoke the most hurt (hint: calling Israel a racist state or comparing Israel's actions to those of the Nazis falls under that rubric). And I have more important things to do, because I'm not of that Loser Generation or a present-day incarnation of it (a.k.a. the modern Left--or nearly all of it). I posted this so that anyone who reads your comment and compare it to my paraphrase will see how ideologically bankrupt the modern Left has become, excusing the crimes of the terminally evil (or what else would you call those who throw temper tantrums in the face of a few line-drawings or a 14th-century quote?) and proscribing those who stand for the good life you currently enjoy against said evil people. Isaiah 5:20 describes you, all you who adhere to modern Leftist West-hating ideology, to a T.

Are you serious? Egypt is a respected state? Syria is a respected state? Lebanon is a respected state? Saudi Arabia is a respected state? Those are Israel's neighbours. What have THEY contributed to the world? On the other hand, what has Israel contributed, besides technological advances, medical breakthroughs, an ability to turn desert into farmland, etc., etc.

Spare me the lectures, okay? If Israel isn't respected, it has nothing to do with its military actions, and everything to do with a longstanding anti-Semitic bias in the world community. Don't believe me? Well, Israel has overwhelmingly been the subject of UN condemnation and vitriol. That same UN essentially ignores genocide in Sudan, genocide in Congo, and genocide in Rwanda. Why is that, I wonder. Could it be because there is no way to condemn Israel for those horrors? Just wondering...........

3) Comments are generally unmoderated, which means I don't necessarily agree with the tone and tenor of everything posted. In fact, sometimes people post things they don't really mean just to make other people look bad. The internet is an anonymous place for the most part. That said...

It may pay to recall a famous line from the Tom Selleck magnum opus, Mr. Baseball: "Jack-san, you want Yoji's advice about the babes, you come to Yoji with respect."

5) Enjoy your stay!

"What looked like secularization was merely a veneer laid over a society that had been proudly Muslim for over a millenium. Moreover, the ostensible engine of Arab modernization -- Arab nationalism -- was little more than an elevated tribal covenant."
