Or was it someone else? World lines up against ferocity of Israel attack

...French President Jacques Chirac questioned whether Israel was seeking Lebanon's destruction.

"One may well ask if there isn't today a kind of wish to destroy Lebanon -- its infrastructure, its roads, its communications, its energy, its airport. And for what?

"I find honestly -- as all Europeans do -- that the current reactions are totally disproportionate," he said in a live television interview on France's national Bastille Day...

France destroyed Lebanon by leaving the Christians and the westernized Arabs of its former colony in an impossible situation. A Christian Lebanon, small, centered around the historic Maronite stornghold of Mt. Lebanon might have sustained independence and a decent standard of government. By roping the Maronites and the secularized residents of Beirut in with a large Muslim population, France condemned them to civil war, and to the ultimate fate of becoming either refugees or dhimmi.

Atlas Shrugs is reporting that apparently, President Bush may issue a call for Israel to halt its airstrikes. Well, wouldn't that be wonderful? Let's have the WHOLE world against Israel! I expected cowardice and dhimmitude out of Europe, but had hoped for better out of us................
