This is good news. James Woolsey (who knew he was a Presbyterian?) will be addressing the big PC(USA) meeting on divestment.

Clinton’s CIA Director to Address Presbyterians on Israel Divestment

R. James Woolsey will deliver a lecture on “Energy, Security, and the Long War of the 21st Century” at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) General Assembly in Birmingham, Ala. This address by former President Bill Clinton’s Director of the CIA will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 16th, at the Medical Forum (third floor), adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel. The public and press are invited to join Presbyterian commissioners and observers at this free lecture.

Woolsey is not only an attorney and public servant, having held presidential appointments under four administrations, two Democratic and two Republican. He is also a member of Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. As such he is concerned with the implications of a denominational decision two years ago to institute a process leading toward divestment from corporations doing business with Israel. His talk will address the issue of Israel, Palestine, and Presbyterians. It will touch on the multiple items of business the General Assembly is considering that would end divestment and move the church toward actions to promote peace in the Middle East...

AMEN, AMEN and AMEN to Mr. Woolsey's comments. The Presbyterian Church USA has ABSOLUTELY NO, REPEAT NO, business in this political quagmire of international proportions. Who, in blue blazes, ever came up with the idea that this meddling in international affairs was remotely a responsibility of our church.

My family, the Samuel Martin (my Great Uncle), John Howard Martin (my Grand Father), Dr. Gregory Martin (my Uncle), Francis Martin (my Aunt), etc., were all Presbyterian Missionaries in India (now Pakistan). Martinpur, a town in Pakistan, was name after my Great Uncle Samuel Martin. Taxila Christian Hospital, still one of the greatest eye hospitals in the world, was founded by my Uncle Greg. The legacy goes on and on and is very very rich in deed. These folks were real genuine Presbyterians and practiced that which our church should be doing. That would be mortified with the current diversion of our resources (fiscal, personal, time, etc.) into an area that we know diddly about and have NO business in.

What has happened to the Presbyterian Church USA? There can be no rational reason for this continued course. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE listen to Mr. James Woolsey and MILLIONS of other sane and reasonable Presbyterians!

Thank you.

A. Martin Clark

Martin,

I could not agree with you more. I am of course Betty Martin's daughter. Also grand-daughter to Dr. Greg Martin.

His blood would run cold to see how things are operating.

Anne
