The British teacher's union known as NATFHE has voted for a boycott of Israeli academics that can only be described as Stalinist. Zionism on the Web has information here, and Judy comments here.
Just to provide a little more info for your readers, the boycott is called by NATFHE, the larger of the UK academic unions. NATFHE and AUT (responsible for last years boycott that they then overturned amid much public pressure) merge in a few days time. The purpose of this boycott motion was to set an agenda for discussion in the new union.
The motion passed with 106 for, 71 against and 21 abstentions.
The motion itself is a silent boycott and is aimed at delegitimising Israel as a state.
"Syme: It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. You wouldn't have seen the [Newspeak] Dictionary 10th edition, would you Smith? It's that thick. [illustrates thickness with fingers] The 11th Edition will be that [narrows fingers] thick. Winston Smith: So, The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect? Syme: The secret is to move from translation, to direct thought, to automatic response. No need for self-discipline. Language coming from here [the larynx], not from here
[the brain]" -1984 (film)
