On November 17, an invitation appeared on the Islamic Society of Boston's email distribution list inviting everyone to a fundraising dinner on the 20th to be held at the Mosque for the Praising of Allah in Roxbury, Massachusetts. First among the featured speakers was Imam Siraj Wahaj.

Who is Imam Siraj Wahaj?

He's a board member of the Islamic Society of North America: American al-Qaida suspect's imam headed probed group - Congress poring over tax records of ISNA to see if Muslim nonprofit got Saudi money:

WASHINGTON – The California imam who helped convert an al-Qaida suspect to Islam headed a Muslim activist group under investigation here for possible financial ties to terrorist front groups.

Muzammil H. Siddiqi, former president of the Islamic Society of North America, ministered to a 25-year-old Muslim convert now the subject of an FBI manhunt.

Adam Gadahn allegedly traveled to Pakistan and Afghanistan to train at al-Qaida camps following his conversion while attending the Islamic Society of Orange County in Garden Grove, Calif., in the late 1990s. Siddiqi is head of the mosque there.

Congress is reviewing the financial records of the Islamic Society of North America, or ISNA, as part of a post-9-11 investigation into alleged ties between tax-exempt Muslim organizations and terrorist groups...

...ISNA's website says its mission is to "advance the cause of Islam and Muslims in North America." It lists training imams as its No. 1 goal.
But critics say ISNA is an extremist group disguised as a moderate group.

ISNA "enforces Wahhabi theological writ in the country's 1,200 officially recognized mosques," said terror expert Stephen Schwartz, author of "The Two Faces of Islam: Saudi Fundamentalism and Its Role in Terrorism." Wahhabism, a puritanical, anti-Western strain of Islam, is the official religion of the Saudi government. It's also practiced by Osama bin Laden.

Members of ISNA's board include controversial New York imam Siraj Wahaj, named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the federal case last decade against terrorist Omar Abdel Rahman, a.k.a. the Blind Sheikh...

He has an agenda: Jihad Watch: Florida Islamic Conference Outed As Jihad-Fest:

In a similar vein, CAIR board member Imam Siraj Wahaj calls for replacing the American government with a caliphate, and warns that America will crumble unless it "accepts the Islamic agenda." Wahaj, it should be noted, served as a character witness for Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, the Muslim cleric convicted for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.' Front Page Magazine March 5, 2003 – Wahaj was also a scheduled speaker at the Conference who now appears to be AWOL from the event.

He knows who his friends are: FrontpageMag: UCLA Sponsors of Terrorism:

The speaker Imam Siraj Wahaj, a member of CAIR’s Board of Advisors, was listed as a potential unindicted co-conspirator in the World Trade Center bombing case (List of unindicted persons who may be alleged as co-conspirators in United States versus Omar Ahmad Ali Abdel Rahman, Mary Jo White, US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, February 2, 1995). He is the imam of the al-Taqwa mosque in Brooklyn, where he provided a platform for Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman. He later served as a defense witness for the Sheik in the World Trade Center bombing trial. In September 1991, Wahaj stated the following:

"…And he [Allah] declared ‘Whoever is at war with my friends, I declare war on them.’ Who is a friend of Allah? [He chants a passage in Arabic] Allah. Your true friend is Allah, the messenger, and those who believe. Americans and Canadians. Hear it well. Hear what I’m telling you well. The Americans are not your friends, hear what I’m telling you, hear it well. The Canadians are not your friends, hear what I’m telling you, hear it well. The Europeans are not your friends. Your friend is Allah, the Messenger and those who believe. These people will never be satisfied with you until you follow their religion. They will never be satisfied with you…"[1][9]

Here's that agenda again: Salon: Islam's flawed spokesmen:

Hooper then ended the interview, and refused to discuss questions about a series of 1994 meetings that CAIR coordinated for Bassam Alamoush, a Jordanian Islamic militant who told a Chicago audience in December of that year that killing Jews was "a good deed." Nor could he be asked about CAIR board member Siraj Wahaj. Wahaj, the imam of the Taqwa Mosque in Brooklyn, decried on TV the Sept. 11 attacks as "criminal" and "wrong." But Wahaj also had invited convicted terrorist Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman to speak at his mosque, and even testified on his behalf. Before then, in 1991, speaking to the Islamic Association of North Texas, Wahaj called Operation Desert Storm "one of the most diabolical plots ever in the annals of history," and that the war was "part of a larger plan, to destroy the greatest challenge to the Western world, and that's Islam." Just as the USSR fell, so too will the U.S., Wahaj said, "unless America changes its course from the new world order and accepts the Islamic agenda."

He has a vision for America:

...and those of Siraj Wahaj, "a top figure in the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim Alliance in North America, and the Muslim Arab Youth Association,

"I have a vision in America, Muslims owning property all over, Muslim businesses, factories, halal meat, supermarkets, all these buildings owned by Muslims. Can you see the vision, can you see the Newark International Airport and a John Kennedy Airport and La Guradia having Muslim fleets of planes, Muslim pilots. Can you see our trucks rolling down the highways, Muslim names. Can you imagine walking down the streets of Teaneck, [New Jersey]: three Muslim high schools, five Muslim junior-high schools, fifteen public schools. Can you see the vision, can you see young women walking down the street of Newark, New Jersey, with long flowing hijab and long dresses. Can you see the vision of an area ... controlled by the Muslims?"

He's concerned about homosexuality:

Imam Siraj Wahaj, an African-American convert to Islam, and a prominent cleric and scholar of Islam in the United States was quoted as saying the following in 1992, in reference to the supposed opening of a gay mosque in Toronto: "I would burn down the masjid (mosque) myself, if I could."

He's interested in establishing a Caliphate:

From the non-Muslim perspective the militancy in Kashmir is any thing but a freedom struggle. The People who are engaged in this insurrection came from about 3 dozen Muslim countries and so did their funds, trainers, organization and planners. This fully establishes the foreign connection of the so-called Jihad. The declared goal of these Jihadistsis to establish a caliphate; the Qauranic concept of a world government based on moral principles laid down in the Sunnah. They urge Muslims world wide to strive for caliphate, as, without it, Islam is incomplete. Even Siraj Wahaj, a U.S. black convert to Islam declared in the recent past that "if only Muslims were clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional govt. with a caliphate. If we were united and strong, he said, we would elect our own emir and give allegiance to him. Take my word if 8 million Muslims unite in America, the country will come to us."

Wow. I must say I am impressed. You guys defame every muslim you can find with made up stuff. Imaam Siraj has nothing to do with terrorism whatsoever. Why don't you show proof man. Proof is in the pudding. This "unindicted coconspirator" stuff is a joke. Its funny if people will actually beleive that a man cleared on any charges and who's audio cassettes can be easily purchased by any non-muslim online is a terrorist. He is available at masjid al taqwah in brooklyn and has a number where he can be contacted. The man is transparent and you guys want to force a terrorist label on him. Sorry. Not working. Everyone knows what he is about. You guys need to get out of the house more often and decide for yourselves instead of living life like a kitchen mouse afraid of everything you hear. tsk tsk tsk. God Bless America :)

So what is he about if not the things he says?

I agree with the previous post. Mr Siraj is a Muslim and speaks from a Muslim perspective. It is understood that when Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and other preachers speak, they are speaking from a Christian perspective. I have heard the above mentioned gentlemen say inflammatory and bigoted things against homosexuals and other faiths too. Some of us don't want to live in an America based upon the vision of Pat Robertson either. And what is the point of trying the man by using the "unindicted coconspirator". Unindicted means that he was not found guilty of thing..duh. You are doing nothing but slandering a man based upon your fears and bigotry.

Could this be the same Siraj Wahaj who is called "a charismatic intellectual" in today's Washington Post?

I applaud Imam siraj Wahaj. A great man, who we knew in missouri. He speaks the truth, and to chastize him is unfair, given the fact that many ultra-Zionist leaders make similar comments about Palestinians and non-Jews, in general. Everybody is entitled to their individual point of view, whether it is me or Imam Siraj Wahaj.

Plus, it is not bigoted to make comments about abnormal behavior like homosexuality. Imam Siraj Wahaj is entitled to his opinion, as I am. Steven Spielberg, and all the other Jews in Hollywood, can say what they want. So why can't Muslims say what they want.
