Just got back from a talk given by Jihad Watch's Robert Spencer and sponsored by The Middle East Forum. I took some notes and will try to get some thoughts down in the next day or two when I have a chance. It was an interesting evening. Spencer certainly pulls no punches.
I don't know of any other bloggers there, although I don't know if there weren't. No others introduced themselves afterward, though. Spencer hung around for quite awhile after the talk chatting. He was quite friendly and open.
I'm in Boston and I found out about the event from the JAT-Action mailing list and then saw a mention of it on his site which tweaked me into going.
Mike, I worked on it a bit yesterday, and I intend to spend some time on it today, too. Looks like it will be another long one. Not sure how interesting it will be for the already well-informed, but I do want to get it all down.
I want to get it done, as you can see from yesterday's lack of posting that it will be gumming up my mental works until I finish it.
OK, I've finished the entry. I sent it off to Robert Spencer just to see if he has any comment, but if I don't hear back I'll go ahead and post the entry in a little while. I realize I'm not giving him much time to respond (should he even have the inclination to), but I need to get some content up on here and I can always add his response in later.
"Syme: It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. You wouldn't have seen the [Newspeak] Dictionary 10th edition, would you Smith? It's that thick. [illustrates thickness with fingers] The 11th Edition will be that [narrows fingers] thick. Winston Smith: So, The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect? Syme: The secret is to move from translation, to direct thought, to automatic response. No need for self-discipline. Language coming from here [the larynx], not from here

Were there any other bloggers there?
Are you on the West Coast?
Look forward to seeing your notes and by the way how did you know about the event?

Off topic :interesting article by a freelance journalist in Iran.
Hey sorry I missed your call last night. I was already out of the office and home at the time. Unusually so. Looking forward to your report.
Solomon when are you going to post the summary of the Spencer talk and all of your feedback and feelings on it?
Eagerly anticipating 'the scoop' on it.
Mike
