George Galloway's Viva Palestina convoy is next in line, following the Gaza Freedom March, to cause nothing but trouble in the region, only now matters have gone from troublesome to deadly: Egyptian border guard killed in clash with Gaza protesters

Egyptian security forces and Palestinians clashed at the Gaza border on Wednesday over the delay of an international aid convoy, killing one Egyptian border guard and wounding 15 Palestinians...

...It was the worst violence on the border since an Egyptian major was killed by Palestinian gunmen during Operation Cast Lead in December 2008.

The Egyptian state news agency said Palestinians shot and killed the 21-year-old border guard who was in an observation tower overlooking the frontier. Nine other guards were injured by the stones thrown across the border by hundreds of Palestinians...

...More than 50 activists and over a dozen members of the security forces were injured. Activists briefly seized some policemen as well...

It's George Galloway's private little army. The entire effort is a waste, as always with these things. If the point were to get aid in to Gaza, there are far more efficient ways of doing that, and all the money spent for this street theater could have gone to actually helping people instead of killing them.

Now they've not only undermined the Egyptian Government, but they've undermined their own cause by once again reminding everyone that Gaza shares a border with a country other than Israel, and they don't want to have anything to do with the Gazans either.

Viva Palestina raises money in Boston.

The Gaza Freedom March has taken a break from its march towards BDS to claim its first victim. Since it was a "mere" Egyptian policeman who died as a result of the Galloway/Code Pink/GSM fiasco, Alan Rickman is unlikely to direct a play about the late... Read More

Solomonia's comments on George Galloway's 'theatre' misrepresent him completely. Anyone who bothers to read Mr Galloway's politics will know that they are entirely peaceful whether you agree with him or not.

That the corrupt Mubarak dictatorship has not supported the democratically elected government of Gaza is more likely to undermine the regime in Cairo than the legitimate claim of the Palestinian people to self determination.

Sure, the supporters of terrorism are not good people, whether they are the Iranian government funding Hamas to launch rockets into Israel or the many citizens of the United States that financed a quarter of a century of bombs and murder in Northern Ireland.

It is still the case, however, that the Palestinians, just like the Catholic citizens of Ulster (and other groups like the Tamils of Sri Lanka) do have clear grievances than need to be addressed before peace is possible

Galloways buddies flying the "saltaire" in Lybia was a nice touch at the welcome home of a murderer of 270 innocents.

This reminds me of NYC Mayor Ed Koch's trip to Nicauragua, in the 80s, to visit with the Sandinistas.

In what way, exactly, does the situation in Nicaragua resemble the Gaza Strip or the Sandanistas equate to Hamas?

"Galloway's politics ... they are entirely peaceful whether you agree with him or not."

"(via Harry's Place)

" ‘In one of several speeches delivered in Kensington Gardens, George Galloway, leftwing MP for the Respect party, called on protesters to go to shopping centres and “shut down Israel’s shops” [--]

So it appears that Galloway was urging his audience to shut down mobile “Israel Shops” selling Israeli products and located in certain shopping malls....

...a question arises: how to shut down these shops. Surely Galloway would not be advocating violence or destruction of property. So what other possibilities are there?

Perhaps a sign next to the shops warning the public to avoid buying products from Israelis. There should also be a widely recognized Israeli symbol like the Magen David to make sure potential customers understand just whom they should not be buying from. And of course there would need to be someone standing nearby to explain why the shop should be shut down."
______________

"Galloway is a Mosleyite mob-inciter with a disturbingly vast influence in certain vulnerable sections of British society, and his demagoguery opens vistas to lunatic "activists" around the world. And he was not calling for a mere boycott of some shops. He was exhorting the crowds to go to those shopping malls where trhe Israel Shops do their business. What do you think Galloway's lunatic followers will do there? Sit around in circles in their socks, cross-legged, singing old Joan Baez songs?"

Unfortunately the Egyptians have expelled Galloway, and returned him to our bosum.

Alas.

"...tolerance can be a genuinely harmful force when it becomes a euphemism for moral exhaustion and a rigid or indifferent neutrality in response to very great moral issue -- when, in G.K. Chesterton's phrase, it becomes the virtue of people who do not believe in anything. For that paves the road to injustice."
