I heard that Muammar Qaddafi's mother was a Jew who converted to Islam. Hmmmm, all these leaders with Jewish roots. If it keeps on going on like this, and more are discovered, they could have a minyan at the next OPEC meeting.

I'm a little skeptical of this story, if only because it sounds too weird. It's possible, though. But I wonder if, when people want to discredit a leader in the Middle East (outside of Israel, of course), they spread rumors that the leader is a Jew or of Jewish origin.

I'm torn. On one hand, I want to adhere to principle, take the high road, and say that the fact that Immadinnerjacket was once Jewish is of no political consequence. It's something for the psychologists to mull over, but otherwise a footnote in the life of this mad man. On the other hand, I'm tempted to play into the idea of a mass Jewish conspiracy and try to convince the Iranian hardliners that he's actually a Jewish sleeper agent, and should be dealt with post haste.

Studies show Turkey to be about 5% Turkish from a strictly genetic point of view. From that standpoint it is a mass of Greeks, Jews and Armenians who converted for one reason or another. Their are more Celtic genetics in Turkey than Turkic!

On conversion in general, what is the surprise? There is no bigger fallacy than religious continuity (either among an ethic group or for the religion itself) . And there is no truer statement than that the most recently converted are the most zealous. We are almost certainly not mainly the decedents of the biblical Jews but of converts to Judaism. It just doesn't seem so since active conversion to Judaism hasn't been being done for 1000 to 1500 years. And we are practicing a very different religion than the Temple Judaism and the Tanakh.

What does that mean with Sabourjian - Ahmadinejad? He isn't running the country anyway. He isn't the one who will decide on the future of the nuclear weapons program or when how it will be used. I've spoken with an Iranian who said Ahmadinejad is an Arab. Does he look like any of the Ayatollahs? No. He looks more like a Arab from the Arabian Peninsula.
