I've heard there was quite a group gathered outside today's opening of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center today. Some pretty good coverage from NECN:

Here's some raw video of Charles Jacobs talking to Imam Abdullah Faaruuq, courtesy of Hillel Stavis. They start talking about Jamal Badawi, go on to talk about Yousef Qaradhawi's thoughts on homosexuality (the Imam thinks he's entitled to his opinion), won't talk to Ahmed Mansour (a man who has been jailed and threatened with death, and whose followers have been jailed and tortured)...he does say Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish State, but doesn't seem to have much of an opinion of Hamas as a terrorist group. A young man with some interesting opinions comes in toward the end before being shuffled off:

Finally, WBUR (the local NPR affiliate) demonstrates a little Freudian slip in Bianca Vazquez Toness' report on yesterday's press conference: New England's Largest Mosque Opens, After Years Of Controversy

BOSTON -- The Islamist Society of Boston Cultural Center was designed to fit into the landscape of Roxbury. Standing about 100 yards away and looking at the mosque, it's the same color -- brick and tan tilework -- as most of the other buildings, including Roxbury Community College...

Doh!

Miss Kelly comments on the day's events, here.

Update: A good picture accompanies this Globe article: Dissent greets mosque opening - Hundreds attend afternoon service, as a few protest

Update2: Globe reporter Michael Paulson has blog posts on the day's events: Roxbury mosque to open today, Interfaith breakfast for Roxbury mosque, and Muslims greet protesters outside mosque.

The kid at the end is a decent kid just trying to have a conversation.... the question about Mecca is silly... ask them if they can build a synagogue in Syria, Egypt, Lebanon or Jordan..... where Jews predate Arabs or Islam....

Bottom line in the US you can't stop them from building a mosque, that's just the way it is... and bombarding them with questions about Israel isn't as pertinent.. the views on the US, slavery, the Holocaust, women, etc.. are more relevant to the extremism....

The outrage that's lacking in this is the corrupt method by which the Center obtained the property.
The outrage that's lacking is the lack of knowledge about the slave trade that is represented in Islam. (There's no monument to Charles Quantrill in Roxbury.)
Considering the numbers that do not justify this edifice - noting that many came from hundreds of miles away, and from other "cultural centers" just to fill space - this should be looked at as what Walid Phares calls the "pregnancy period" of political power, whereby places are prepared for future Islamic citadels.
The hypocrisy of Duval Patrick, not appearing for the sake of attending a military funeral and citing Obama's Edward Said pap from Cairo is even more outrageous.
Obama, Patrick and most liberals have a visceral hatred of the military.
None so blind as those who 'choose' not to see, nor deaf as those who block their ears.
For those of us who believe in prayer, may find that it is all we have left.

Sordove take back what I said -

"The Jews assasinated the _____ (baba>).... that's right many times...
And they were kicked out of Medina for trading ____________"

supposedly assassinating what/who?
trading what?

So is it sordove ok to descriminate against Muslims for being involved in the majority of violent situations and death around the world today - or for taking much of Asia part of Europe by the sword in the last 400 years? since he's talking about something that supposedly happened 1300 years ago...

Recently came across a new blog (for me) that consistently aggregates some very solid sources and information. One example that I may not have come across otherwise:

UNHCR Sponsors Study of Islamic Influence on International Refugee Law

Rather amazing, given what's happening in Iran, in Sudan, etc.

Michael B,

From your link
Guterres writes. “The international community should value this 14-century-old tradition of generosity and hospitality and recognize its contributions to modern law.”

After the tens of millions they slaughtered in their takeover of the Indian sub-continent and all the other acts practiced against the non-Muslim, my mind just boggles.

Hmmm. The peer review process must have been interesting. Otoh, perhaps it wouldn't prove to be that much different from the peer review process in some of the softer sciences at American and other western universities.

I look forward to the UNHCR allying itself with a brand of southern pentecostalism, perhaps on the subject of the medicinal beneficence of snake handling. Probably not though, two ingredients are missing: petro-dollars and pentecostal styled jihadists/militants.

Or to take it at face value and seriously, without indulging any glibness. The U.N., in too many areas and most prominently as applied to the Middle East, has become a byzantium of bureaucratic and careerist types, in turn based upon sclerotic ideological/political assumptions. As such, they don't function as genuine moral agents or even as genuinely human agents. Instead they are functionaries, akin to ants in a hyper-active colony with preset mechanistic-like roles being fulfilled; effectively a deterministic display of socio-biological functionaries. It has a self-fulfilling aspect to it, one that some Ivy League socio-biologists would positively applaud.

Update, The Political Abuse of the Refugee Issue, a disection of prominent aspects of the issue. Four or five-thousand words, thus somewhat lengthy, but a reminder of some recent and contemporary aspects of the issue in question. It appears to be an extract of Meir-Levi's still lengthier The Big Lie (pdf).

(Advancing a purported concern for refugees while seeking to destroy Israel, a Jewish state that comprises roughly 0.166% of the land in the M.E. and whose population is 22% Arab, also while Sudan's murderous oppression continues apace, events in Tehran are continuing, etc., etc., etc. We live in Orwellian and Kafkaesque times to such a thoroughgoing, such a pervasive and omnipresent degree. Money and power, and the allure and glamour they bring in their wake, talks.)

Inline with the Big Lie theme, Honest Reporting has a small collection in something of a multi-media format, hi-lighting such basic, propagandized libels as reflected in Jenin and al-Dura and three or four others. Informative and accessible given the video and narrative styled presentation.

"After the tens of millions they slaughtered in their takeover of the Indian sub-continent and all the other acts practiced against the non-Muslim, my mind just boggles"

muslims left their famalies and life to spread justice and worship of god alone to people that were ruled by kings who proclaim they are gods.who oppressed their people and made them into real slaves...
muslims didnt slaughter millions as you say, they fought with well equipped armies.... Islam FREED people of those continents from the darkness they were in through islam.

America does the same thing, they wage wars agianst other countries in the name of spreading freedom and democracy, but in the end you get shoes as answers.

you take about islam in the same tone as people in europe in the 8th century spoke, although you have the internet and all information about islam....but the problem is in the mind not in the lake of information.

as the quran says

(55) Those who dispute about the Signs of Allah without any authority bestowed on them― there is nothing in their breasts but (the quest of) greatness, which they shall never attain to:

Oh Arabian, what rose-colored glasses you have on. There is an extensive historical record of Islamic rulers enslaving and killing millions of non-Muslims across Northern Africa, the Middle East, India and with forays into southern Europe, enslaving millions of Europeans. Thankfully, the numerous invasions into Europe were stopped. If Islamic rulers spread "freedom," please explain why slavery exists to this day in only in Muslim countries. The least free countries in the world by any measure (freedom of religion, freedom of speech, equal rights for women, etc., etc.) are Muslim countries.

Islam "FREED" people through slavery, practiced even today in Sudan and Mauritania, female genital mutilation, honor killing, fatwas, jihad, mass killing, hanging gays, stonings of women.

And Islam is the fastest growing religion - in PRISONS.

There is nothing better than Islam gaining new adherents from prison populations.

I left Israel to find myself in the middle of this?
The Muslims in the USA are far more dangerous than those back home.
