The War on Terror is over. Long live the Overseas Contingencies Operation, protecting us from Man-Caused Disasters at home and abroad.

You cannot make this stuff up. You have to vote for it.

Since it a contingency rather than an actuality, does that mean my Air Force son, Army nephew and Navy niece can all come home now?

My dad must be turning in his grave; God rest his soul. Dad fought in the Pacific theater of World War II at the Battle of Saipan.

Words reflect ideas and feelings, and the use of the word contingency rather than war relfects the utopian idea or feeling that there is no such thing as evil. Just war is always a contingency in the face of evil - the evil of organized destruction of human life and liberty.

Prior generations would simply think this was some kind of joke. Bring back the War Department.

Tom, That's contingent...on there being no more international terrorism.

Terminological Robustness, another facet of the "persistent" vision that is the R/TOTUS, the Rhetorician/Teleprompter of the United States. It's as if the MSM itself has ascended to the office of the presidency, Obama merely acting as the mouthpiece and personification of that media.

(Syntax, terminology, spin, word-smithery and an accompanying polish being the very stock and trade of the MSM.)
