"Syme: It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. You wouldn't have seen the [Newspeak] Dictionary 10th edition, would you Smith? It's that thick. [illustrates thickness with fingers] The 11th Edition will be that [narrows fingers] thick. Winston Smith: So, The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect? Syme: The secret is to move from translation, to direct thought, to automatic response. No need for self-discipline. Language coming from here [the larynx], not from here

Clearly, a subtle ploy to coopt the pervasive and well-known Alaskan Zionist vote. Is there any doubt?
Indeed. Michael Chabon documented this important Alaskan constituency in The Yiddish Policemen's Union.
Looks like one of the tiny Israeli-flag-on-a-toothpick things that get handed ouut, or given away, at some pro-Israeli events. (I ordered some products from an Israeli website a while back; they came in a timely fashion, and two toothpick-flags were enclosed. I've also seen them at fairs and such.)
I suspect that Gov. Palin was handed one on some forgotten occasion, and she chose to keep it. Personally, I don't think this says much about her feelings vis-a-vis Israel, one way or the other.
Stay tuned, folks; this year is gonna be one heck of a roller-coaster ride!
respectfully,
Daniel in Brookline
