Mickey Mouse must die, says Saudi Arabian cleric/diplomat Sheikh Muhammad Munajid:

The cleric, a former diplomat at the Saudi embassy in Washington DC, said that under Sharia, both household mice and their cartoon counterparts must be killed.

Mr Munajid was asked to give Islam's teaching on mice during a religious affairs programme broadcast on al-Majd TV, an Arab television network.

According to a translation prepared by the Middle East Media Research Institute, an American press monitoring service, he said: "The mouse is one of Satan's soldiers and is steered by him...

"Mickey Mouse has become an awesome character, even though according to Islamic law, Mickey Mouse should be killed in all cases."

Last month Mr Munajid condemned the Beijing Olympics as the "bikini Olympics", claiming that nothing made Satan happier than seeing females athletes dressed in skimpy outfits.

A former diplomat. There are the guys who our State Department depends on to:

1. be a moderating force in the Middle East

2. keep our economy running smoothly

3. help us in the war against terrorism

..and we wonder why everything is so screwed up?

UPDATE: In my comments section reader DPU asks:

"And there's no chance [he] was making a joke?"

Yeah, I'd say it's a typical example of Saudi po-mo irony. Those guys just kill at the Laff Lounge.

I mean literally. The head of Saudi Arabian Supreme Judiciary Council Sheikh Salih A-Lahidan declared that evil TV [satellite channel owners] can be killed, saying "It is legitimate to kill those who encourage corruption in faith...if their evil cannot be stopped by other penalties,"

Hey, that's the same Saudi government official who, in 2005, told young Saudis to go to Iraq and become suicide bombers. You know, King Abdullah's best friend. What a kidder.

Another "just kidding" comment. Wasn't it in Saudi Arabia (Mecca?) just a few short years ago where some type of "vice" or "religious/moral" police authority wouldn't allow several girls to escape from a burning building because they were not properly clothed according to Islamic dictates - hence several girls perished in the smoke and flames?!?!

Just going by memory but I believe that essentially reflects the set of facts.

It's also the place where women are whipped for the crime of being raped, it's the source of the majority of al Qaeda members, it's the source of most of the funds for al Qaeda and it's the hub of world terrorism.

It's also our 'key' ally in the war against terrorism. The state department relies on these troglodytes to be a force of moderation in the Middle East.

1) We dont have priests in islam, everyperson has a mistake and every horse falls once....we have a saying that ( who looks after scholers mistakes is like a one who looks after animale bodily wastes)

2) the scholrs intentions are clean and clear, they dont want corruption in the society. but on the same time memritv, as usuall, turned from bieng serious and acadamic and usefull...to following gossips and paparazzi tactics.

shiekh louheaidan who spent his life serving islam ment that who ever seeks corruption should face death.

ok so what does this mean......everybody goes and kills every corrupt TV channel owner...ofcourse no....because this means "iftiat" or killing in the name of islam or shariee.....even if the shariee or laws procliam that he should be killed...the only entity that can carry punishments is the government only.

thridly what do you now about media in the middle east?

tv channels that put dancing girls 24 hours....and songs all the time....and people who claim to interpert dreams.....and cure diseases.....and solve problems......exd are alowed by governments.

but on the other hand......arab countries on february met and forced all news channels ( ofcourse all serious news channels are payed by governments) to sighn a media code that curbs freedom of expression.

western media which are in rage of his comments, but they ignore daily civilian deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq by mercineries who are paid to kill, thats what you get when wour soldiers fight for no clear reason except money.

although , shiekh lohedan prayed that god guides them to remove thier channels on their own...because money has blind their sights on the corruption they caused.

in the end I am sure that mickey wont say "they hate us because our democracy"

good bye

PRESIDENT Bush planned to bomb Arab TV station al-Jazeera in friendly Qatar, a "Top Secret" No 10 memo reveals.

But he was talked out of it at a White House summit by Tony Blair, who said it would provoke a worldwide backlash.

That's interesting, arabian. When Chief Justice A-Lahidan went on Saudi TV in 2005 and said "If someone knows that he is capable of entering Iraq in order to join the fight, and if his intention is to raise up the word of God, then he is free to do so,", many Saudis did what he asked them to do. Does that mean that the subsequent flood of saudi suicide bombers into Iraq was officially sanctioned by the entire Saudi government?

Ok its fair enogh.

but lets say what does this do to america, he said can go to iraq, not america. although from what I know he doesnt see this anymore.

Well, he wouldn't, since the Iraqis in Anbar joined with the Americans to kick the Saudis out of Iraq

Thanks, arabian, for the analysis.

oops - the second paragraph above should be italicized

but on the other hand......arab countries on february met and forced all news channels ( ofcourse all serious news channels are payed by governments) to sighn a media code that curbs freedom of expression.

I think both of them, governments and clerics do not like freedom of expression because it's dangerous to them

I do not know why is that

Look at this video for the same cleric who wanna kill mickey mouse

I do not know if people like him are clean and clear ... maybe just when people believe in what they say, they let them go ... otherwise, KILL !!

your welcome.

SO the war in iraq is to kick saudies out of iraq?

I though its was a war because of WMD or links with alqaeda.

Or is it that al qaeda is diffrent than saudies, or is it that alqaeda recruits people from all bordiring countries?

and what about the shiite militants?

IT depends on you, I think this issue will take more years and more banks that will go bankrupt.

ofcourse america is wasting billions here when its economy needs it, because people can understand that this filthy game of misleading people should stop and nobody care weather america is a democracy or a hurricane sweaps it and makes another atlantis.

god helps the normal working americans that wake up to drink cofee and here all this bullshit on news channels that lie 24 hours.

SO the war in iraq is to kick saudies out of iraq?

there were many reasons for the war in Iraq, some stated, some we'll never know.

However, we do know that, before 2005, the US Army had absolutely no interest in fighting terrorism. We had no idea how to do it.

In Iraq, we did learn something about fighting terrorism. That wasn't part of the plan, but there it is.

We won't be able to completely defeat terrorism until we abandon the policy of using terror sponsors like the Saudis as our personal pit bulls (to fight the Russians' rabid pets in Iran). We need to engage with the Russians directly, without the use of these annoying pawns.
