Judith just forwarded this transcript of Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin before ABC cherrypicked her quotes, editing out key parts of her responses.

Thanks to Newsbusters:

Next we see that Palin was not nearly as hostile towards Russia as was presented in the edited interview:

GIBSON: Let me ask you about some specific national security situations.

PALIN: Sure.

GIBSON: Let's start, because we are near Russia, let's start with Russia and Georgia.

The administration has said we've got to maintain the territorial integrity of Georgia. Do you believe the United States should try to restore Georgian sovereignty over South Ossetia and Abkhazia?

PALIN: First off, we're going to continue good relations with Saakashvili there. I was able to speak with him the other day and giving him my commitment, as John McCain's running mate, that we will be committed to Georgia. And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable and we have to keep...

GIBSON: You believe unprovoked.

PALIN: I do believe unprovoked and we have got to keep our eyes on Russia, under the leadership there. I think it was unfortunate. That manifestation that we saw with that invasion of Georgia shows us some steps backwards that Russia has recently taken away from the race toward a more democratic nation with democratic ideals. That's why we have to keep an eye on Russia.

And, Charlie, you're in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They're very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they're doing in Georgia?

PALIN: Well, I'm giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it's in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.

We also see from Palin's following remark, which was also edited out, that she is far from some sort of latter day Cold Warrior which the edited interview made her seem to be:

We cannot repeat the Cold War. We are thankful that, under Reagan, we won the Cold War, without a shot fired, also. We've learned lessons from that in our relationship with Russia, previously the Soviet Union.

We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it's in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.

Palin's extended remarks about defending our NATO allies were edited out to make it seem that she was ready to go to war with Russia.

Is there any way to keep up with the jaw-dropping mix of bias, arrogance, adulterated junk-food, and obtuse stupidity that the American news media has on display for us this election year? Bloggers, talk-show hosts, and others who are about... Read More

I'm not going to believe it until the story is better sourced.

Shame on Charles Gibson for being so supercillious(?) with Sarah Palin.

Until Gibson interviewed Sarah Palin, I liked him. He tried to appear disinterested in his news broadcasts but the real Charles Gibson showed his true colors with this interview. What a hatchet job. Obama can say he is true to his "Moslem" faith and Stephanopolis covers for him. ABC is of the same ilk as MS-NBC.

I don't get it. Why is everyone so upset that Palin screwed this up? So, since she can see Russia from Alaska that makes her an expert, right? Please get off this sexist trip..Palin didn't know what she was talking about...period. I got lost behind all her words...I forgot what Charlie had asked her. I think Tina Fay would be a better VP.

Tina Fey for VP?

First Tina Fey needs to focus her executive skills on making Saturday Night Live funny again.

I can't believe you are so naive. It has been established that she was not presented as the interview actually originally was taped, and you are not smart enough to understand her words. Did you read the excerpt in this report, or are you just a plant, using the usual talking points?

If this kind of treatment had been given to Hilary, you would be outraged. Get over yourself and grow your own brain, and stop listening to the same old pundits. You will be happier.

Charlie,

Before the interview I would have begun with Dear Charlie . . . but that was before the interview when I thought you were honest, above board, had a mind of your own; that you were kind, well informed fair, just, polite and someone I would trust. After the interview I lost all my respect for you. Your were rude, bias, condecsending, intimidating (which proved unsuccessful)scornful (meaning your never smiled)well old man I could go on and on but why bother . . . you are a total disappointment.

I have followed you for at least 20-25 yrs. I never thought I'd feel so negative towards you, but I do.

One more thing Charlie, I can not believe you support a candidate that choses murder over life.
You a father and grandfather can believe it's a women's right to chose, her choices are birth control, not the taking a life of an unborn child. What if your daughter was that selfish, you'd be without that grandchild you cherish today. Or what if your Mom decided that the time for having a child was not right; there would be no Charlie Gibson.

Children are the greatest commodity this world has and to throw them in a heap in a garbage outside an abortion client doesn't compute. There are millions of American's who are childless and yet the murdering continues. Are you aware that the most unsafe place for a child is within it's mothers womb.

Shame on you Mr. Gibson!! You however will feel the pressure from your viewers as they turn the channel to someone much kinder than you. That's what I'm doing and so are so many I've spoken with.

One last thing, I believe everyone has the right to chose the candidate of their choice but when you are a major news person . . . you are expected to treat all people fairly.

Sorry I ever thought you were someone special!

"What looked like secularization was merely a veneer laid over a society that had been proudly Muslim for over a millenium. Moreover, the ostensible engine of Arab modernization -- Arab nationalism -- was little more than an elevated tribal covenant."
