You may remember the controversy that erupted over the University of Michigan Press and their distribution of radical publisher Pluto Press's work, brought to a head by their publication of Joel Kovel's vicious work, Overcoming Zionism. Now this, from an emailer:
The University of Michigan Press Board sent a letter to Pluto Press last week informing them that the University Press will not be renewing its distribution contract with Pluto. As you know, Pluto Press is a British based publisher of many anti-America, anti-Semitic and anti-Israel books. After the contractually obligated six months notice period, UM Press will no longer be distributing Pluto Press books. The official announcement should be made this week at the U of M Board of Regents meeting.
So Pluto will be gone altogether. Good riddance.

What evidence can you offer to support your claim that Pluto Press is anti-Semitic?
"Israel Shahak" is an anti-Semite by any reasonable definition of the term.
This is a terrible response to the actions of a hate group that wishes to silence any full discussion of Israel's policies. That a University Press would act in such a repressive way is a bad sign for academic freedom in this country.
What hate group are you talkign about DeeDee. There were almost 10 Jewish and non-Jewish organizations that opposed the Pluto Press distribution contract.
Pluto Press is a disgrace. No respectable US University should be spreading Pluto Press trash.
My graduate and undergraduate work was in history. There are certain standards of documentation we were taught are basic to good scholarship.
I recently checked out Shahak's Jewish Fundamentalism in Israel since it is a favored work in the "Peace and Justice" bibliographies of Protestant denominations. My gosh, there are virtually no citation of sources in that work. Shahak makes claim after claim--about Rav Kook's teachings about non-Jews for instance--without ANY citation, without ANY way for a reader to corroborate the claims. If Jewish Fundamentalism in Israel is representative of the output of Pluto Press in general, then U of Michigan had no business distributing its books.

Being a Holocaust survivor does not automatically confer upon writers sainthood, superior moral clarity or indemnity from criticism of antisemitism or any other failings in their attempts to re-write realities and histories.
Irene Nemirovsky was a Jewish writer whose novels narrated some of he most hateful grotesqueries of the antisemitic imagination, yet she was exterminated along with all the other Jews she had used to defame in her writings. This makes her both a Jewish Holocaust victim AND an antisemite.
