Ignorance, bigotry...yes, anti-Semitism...thy name is Gandhi. How much dining out can you do on one famous last name? Shame on the Washington Post: Arun Gandhi: Jewish Identity Can't Depend on Violence

Jewish identity in the past has been locked into the holocaust experience -- a German burden that the Jews have not been able to shed. It is a very good example of a community can overplay a historic experience to the point that it begins to repulse friends. The holocaust was the result of the warped mind of an individual who was able to influence his followers into doing something dreadful. But, it seems to me the Jews today not only want the Germans to feel guilty but the whole world must regret what happened to the Jews. The world did feel sorry for the episode but when an individual or a nation refuses to forgive and move on the regret turns into anger.

The Jewish identity in the future appears bleak. Any nation that remains anchored to the past is unable to move ahead and, especially a nation that believes its survival can only be ensured by weapons and bombs. In Tel Aviv in 2004 I had the opportunity to speak to some Members of Parliament and Peace activists all of whom argued that the wall and the military build-up was necessary to protect the nation and the people. In other words, I asked, you believe that you can create a snake pit -- with many deadly snakes in it -- and expect to live in the pit secure and alive? What do you mean? they countered. Well, with your superior weapons and armaments and your attitude towards your neighbors would it not be right to say that you are creating a snake pit? How can anyone live peacefully in such an atmosphere? Would it not be better to befriend those who hate you? Can you not reach out and share your technological advancement with your neighbors and build a relationship?

Apparently, in the modern world, so determined to live by the bomb, this is an alien concept. You don't befriend anyone, you dominate them. We have created a culture of violence (and Israel and the Jews are the prime instigators) and that Culture of Violence is eventually going to destroy humanity.

Ignorance about Jews runs in the family. Gramps suggested the Jews sacrifice themselves to the Nazis in the hope of exciting the sympathy of the world. Grandson apparently thinks the Jews of today should do the same, but goes further in blaming them for the state of the world. Amazing. Jewish identity doesn't depend on violence, but Jewish survival does. It's an inconvenient world.

Basically, this guy does not have one thing to contribute to the world besides incessantly namedropping his grandfather. I remember his visit to Israel: not a trace of curiosity about the facts, just this constant hectoring about how Israel needs to X, Y and Z because he's Gandhi's grandson. Even Norman Finkelstein, who at least has some initiative, looks attractive next to him.

And I'd noticed the comments immediately, when I saw this story linked elsewhere this morning. You and every other blogger who manages to have a civil and sane comments section, let alone a thoughtful one, should take pride -- look how hard it is for even the mighty WaPo! Even your resident creepazoid lunatic commenters manage to at least be articulate!

"The holocaust was the result of the warped mind of an individual who was able to influence his followers into doing something dreadful."

Of course, there had been no history of antisemitism in Germany and Austria before then. And none in Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, etc. None. It was just one individual, you see. And he...uh...was able to influence followers into something...well...dreadful...don't you know. Just influenced them is all. Uh huh.

And, of course, Israel created the snake pit it's in. It's all about Israel's attitude toward its neighbors. Yeah, right. Of course, Israel did make some serious blunders...serious blunders. But to say that Israel created that "snake pit" is astounding ignorance or stupidity.

This kind of writing would barely make a C grade in a freshman paper. Why is this being featured in the Washington Post? I mean, be critical of Israel. But at least have some knowledge of what you're writing about.

All I can hope is that the more intelligent readers of the Washington Post will raise an eyebrow when they read this piece, shake their heads, turn the page, and forget about this guy.

Wow!

Sorry for commenting again, but I went over to LGF (I didn't have the heart...or, rather, the stomach...to go to the WaPo site.) They have some more of the article there, and here is another quote:

"Apparently, in the modern world, so determined to live by the bomb, this is an alien concept. You don’t befriend anyone, you dominate them. We have created a culture of violence — Israel and the Jews are the biggest players — and that Culture of Violence is eventually going to destroy humanity."

This guy is loony-tunes. Not just ignorant. Not just fatuous. This guy is over the top. My God, what could they have been thinking at the Washington Post?!

There is an evolving relationship between Israel and India at present, along with closer relations with the US It would be intersting to hear this paskudnik's opinion on that.

Why don't all of Arun Gandhis family members do the suicide thing in hopes of a better re-incarnation as a SACRED COW!!!

Arun Gandhi name drops like Paris Hilton.

Ghandi was a racist. Just get hold of articles and letters he wrote to the papers in South Africa at the beginning of the 20th century about Black South Africans.
Nothing at all like they made him out to be in the movie.
So with this Arun it must be "all in the family".

Hitler had an interesting comment anent Grandpa Mahatma. During the negotiations for Munich, Lord Halifax, who had been Viceroy of India, made some command about the problems the British were having in India, and Hitler handed out some friendly advice:

"Shoot Gandhi."

Halifax opined that that just wasn't Done, doncha know?

The Fuehrer responded, "Shoot Gandhi, and if that does not suffice to reduce them to submission, shoot a dozen leading members of Congress, and if that does not suffice shoot 200 and so on until order is established."

Did anyone tell Gandhi about that before he said how the Germans would admire Hitler?

Look ppl first of all. Take this in perspective.

1) for all the people who call him an anti-semite.. think what ur saying.

India is the biggest ally Israel has outside of the United States in the Eastern World.

Israel's biggest arms market is India.

the only thing standing between turkey and pakistan is one billion indians.

the highest and most visited tourist destination of young Israeli nationals today is not Europe or the states, it is INDIA.

ISRAEL-INDIA are natural allies due to the nature of judaism and hinduism.

the israeli govt is taking its citizens for a ride.

its ridiculous that the young israleis who serve their mandatory army term, have to go all the way to northern indian to cool of and enjoy.

they cant do it in their own country and are not rich enough to go to the west.,

INDIA has always loved judaism and jewish people.

IT is the only place in the world for the last 2500 years continously been a place of refuge of JEWS. AND NEVER HAVE THEY BEEN DISCRIMINATED

even today.. the desecendants of the lost tribe of israel..

LIVES IN INDIA as indians.

indians love jews.

to criticize a man.. like arun gandhi.. for being anti-semtic is outrageous.

every indian growing up..loves israel then some israelis themselves.

REMEMMBER THAT MY JEWISH FRIENDS

SHALOM

No one here has said anything about India or Indians, but no man is above criticism.

Yeah, Gandhi is just speaking for himself here. He's not talking on behalf of all Indians, but rather expressing his personal opinion. So, criticism of him, no matter how hostile, has nothing to do with criticizing Indians as a whole.

Oh, and it's great to see that Indians like Jews that much.

when i was kid growing up in bombay.

we have like 5 synagogues in bombay, india...

people dont believe it.. their is like 50,000 jewish people in bombay itself.

anyway.. arun gandhi is like 80 years old man...

the youth of india.. the young people.. which dominate the population of the country.. like 80 percent.. love israel.

i mean u can go to any village.. and corner of the country and ask about moses and the israeli and jewish.. and you get smiles.

every year more than 50,000 israeli nationals,

post army.. 3 year term, come to party in india.

we got people speaking hebrew in goa and north india..

it will shock you.

ben gurion once said " the christians may never give up blaming the jews for jesus, the muslims will never forgive us for palestine, but the indians will always love the jewish people and what they stand for "

anyway.. shalom my jewish brothers..

always welcome to visit india.

sorry for the crazy arun comments

Arun Gandhi sounded like Mel Gibson in his drunk tirade. I guess Arun will enter one of those rehabilitation programs, followed by the Diane Sawyer interview.
Actually, I think AG's comments are based on a true fact, anti-semitism pays.

Indian friends, as others have said, most people do NOT blame India for the bigoted comments of Arun Gandhi.

Hindu India has suffered at the hands of "peaceful Islam" as long as Jews have. Hindu India proves the point that Israelis and Jews aren't "the problem" with Islam, ALL NON-MUSLIMs/dhimmis/kafirs are Islams "problem".

Hindu India and Muslim Pakistan almost had a nuclear war, over land. Sounds familiar to me.

India also suffered at the hands of the British.

The many brilliant scientists and engineers of India will make the World a better place.

I extend my best wishes to the majority good people of India.

Bharat MATA ki JAI

hmm.. interesting posts.

Few points I would like to make.

1) Pakistan and 53 other muslim nations hate israel. They dont know why. All they do is harp about the jewish mafia and israel suppressing palestinians. if they care so much have they ever once offered a place for the jews in their land to stay. .. NO.. ( not like the jewish ppl want too ).

2)India is living proof that the hypocrisy of Islamofascists.. that Jews threaten the world. their anti islamic. blah blah blah. India loves the Jews and in Kerela india and even in southern Kashmir.. they are 2500 year old jewish synagogues.

3)these so called arab-islamo fascist nations need to wake up to their double talk. All they want to do is spread the barbaric power hegemony and brutality of sixth century islamic wahabism everywhere.

4) one billion indians and six million israleis.. will fight.. against this together.. ISRAEL AND INDIA ARE TIGHT.. no one can do us apart.

5) I think this is a set up to divide Israel and India. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

6) 800 million young indians support ISRAEL.

no islam, palesstine, iran, pakistan, arab..

can defeat the aspirations and love of 800 million young folk..

anyway.. sorry got passionate a little.

people need to wake up man.. israel is here to stay. JEwish culture is here to stay. Judaism deserves respect.

as young indians believe all of palestine, jordan, syria Should be part of ISRAEL.

and we will see that our dream of greater ISRAEL STATE WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED

JAI HIND

JAI BHARAT MATA

The Jews are a community which pays to seek self pit y around the world because of centuries old holocaust. Nobody is bothered about the state sponsored holocausts around the world, which is going on. They use the identity that they are God's chosen people but they the biggest jackasses of the human race. They simply have a superiority complex....but yet go around with a begging bowl...begging for pity.........India condemns Islamic fundamentalists.........but yet fail to identify the terrorists and terror organizations within their own country...like the BJP, VHP, Bajrangdal........ And terrorists like Narendra Modi, Advani........and that asshole who was was shot dead by his own brother... Pramod Mahajhan. All blady dickheads....shit for brains who believe that God will think that you would be an asshole if you DO NOT put a bullet in a man's stomach...and so does the Jews.....who believe the same....and the Islamic fundamentalists toooo...all shit for brains.......nothing else.....

I'm sensing a certain spike on the Internet in antisemitic speech and sentiment, a certain new found confidence in the hate-mongers, in recent days. Is it just my impression, or have others felt the same? What can account for it? Could it be that the antisemites are out in force, in preparation for Durban II?

I don't know about everywhere, but there's certainly been a spike here. That's what you get when a guy with a name like Gandhi legitimizes this kind of speech -- the ignoramuses all feel suddenly empowered to come out.

Arun Gandhi should be stupid to say what he had said and as stupid as his grandfather Gandhi. Reason being, how could he imagine, even in the wildest dream, that Jews will understand the essence and spirit of what he is saying. I don’t blame jews for that but the propaganda machinery and what popular culture around us has created such opinion. It is very hard to look beyond what we are taught by the culture we are part of and to see things in human spirit and solely based on that. I am saying this at the risk of being sounding stupid and preachy.
Let me share my small storey. I am from India and you guys might be knowing about the recent developments in Burma where Bhuddist bonks advocating for democracy were taken to task by military junta which has silent blessing from India and also China. I wrote a note on this to my friends titled soulless India in making. I was surprised to see many of my friends bashing me and cornered me out for what I was saying and they believed it to be rational for India to act according to its interests and my statement far overreaching. I think many non Indians would have concurred with me and most of Indians on this issue wouldn’t just for the reason that they are thought their country (like in any other country or community) is the greatest, the richest and the purest culture.
Although Hitler was the architect of Holocaust, many Germans, though sane when it comes to many other things, bought into the formula of annihilating jews. This selective blindness and deep sense of nationalism, patriotism beyond humanity is the greatest danger to humanity.
If jews ward of their lenses through which they have been trained to see and act and opinion, I think they would connect themselves well with the Palestinians, who are undergoing the similar suffering that jews went through Holocaust though of a very smaller degree and scale. As Arundati Rai puts it in some what similar lines, what hope does it leave in the world when Jews who have went through all the sufferings through centuries, when they are inflicting similar atrocities on others.

I one wants to label me anti- Semitic for my views, I can’t help.

Well yes, Anand, what you say is antisemitic, though I'm not sure if I'm not stupid to expect you to understand that because, when "the propaganda machinery and what popular culture around us has created such opinion...It is very hard to look beyond what we are taught by the culture we are part of".

Here is how the EUROPEAN COMMISSION AGAINST RACISM AND INTOLERANCE defines antisemitism:

"Anti-Semitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews.

Rhetorical and physical manifestations of anti-Semitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and / or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.

In addition, such manifestations could also target the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collectivity.

Anti-Semitism frequently charges Jews with conspiring to harm humanity, and it is often used to blame Jews for “why things go wrong”. It is expressed in speech, writing, visual forms and action, and employs sinister stereotypes and negative character traits.

Contemporary examples of anti-Semitism in public life, the media, schools, the workplace, and in the religious sphere could, taking into account the overall context, include, but are not limited to:

·... Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as a collective – such as, especially but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions.

... Denying the fact, scope, mechanisms (e.g. gas chambers) or intentionality of the genocide of the Jewish people at the hands of National socialist Germany and its supporters and accomplices during World War II (the Holocaust).

·... Accusing the Jews as a people, or Israel as a state, of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust.

...Examples of the ways in which anti-Semitism manifests itself with regard to the State of Israel taking into account the overall context could include:

....Denying the Jewish people right to self-determination, e.g. by claiming that the existence of a state of Israel is a racist endeavor.

· Applying double standards by requiring of it a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation.

... Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.

· Holding Jews collectively responsible for actions of the State of Israel."

http://www.hagalil.com/antisemitismus/2005/01/definition.htm

Arun Gandhi has minimized the scope pf the Holocaust and suggested that Jews are acting like vampires who feed upon German guilt. He suggested that Jews have created a culture of violence in the world which will bring on the end of humanity. You obviously agree with his statements when you attribute to them a transcendental quality of justice which Jews (mind you, all Jews) cannot possibly understand since they are all racists anyway. And to top it all, you accuse "Jews" (mind you, "Jews", not even bothering to pretend that you are "cticizing" Israel...)of commiting genocide...

More than anything, antisemitism is a dafamation of the collective character of Jews. Sometimes, antisemitism transcends its prejudice into action. Arun Gandhi's words have urged Jews to stop fighting their fate, and surrender their life to Palestinian rage.

What is Palestinian rage?

I refer you to their foundational documents, the Palestinian Charter, The Hamas Charter, both calling for the destruction of Israel, for the expulsion and massacre of Israeli Jews.

In other words, Arun, and you by supporting him, are all too willing to accept another genocide of the Jews.

_________

As for the accusation, so beloved of the antisemitic "Left", that Israel is committing genocide, here are two points:

1. "Just like Hocaust-denial, genocide-assertion as applied to Israel vis-à-vis the Palestinians bears no relation to any serious historical evidence about the long conflict in the region. It is a blatant historical falsehood - the blood libel on a spectacular scale. Genocide-assertion with reference to Israel should be seen
henceforth as the twin of Holocaust-denial: a not very covert form of anti-Semitism that disgraces its proponents."

http://normblog.typepad.com/normblog/2007/07/genocide-assert.html

@. "In 1948, there were around 750,000 Palestinian refugees. The current figures are between 4 and 6 million. Genocides, slow or fast, do not normally result in a huge increase in population."

http://normblog.typepad.com/normblog/2007/07/the-reasons-the.html

So yes, Anand, you cannot escape the conclusion, it grieves me to say, that your position is quite explicitly antisemitic.

But it would be stupid of me to expect you to understand why.

Let's take a step back here for a moment. Let's remember that a lot of those of us who follow these issues may see as obvious things that are not so obvious to the regular guy who hasn't intellectualized everything so regularly. I think Anand may be saying something anti-Semitic, but perhaps not intentionally so, and that should be seen as an opportunity to convert and convince (and that doesn't apply to everyone who's shown up to comment on this issue). Let's face it, this is a common fallacy -- to see suffering but be ignorant of the real source of that suffering and with whom and to what extent the responsibility lies.

I also think he's really talking in a way about the dangers of group-think. I think he's wrong, but not hateful (at least, those facts aren't in evidence yet).

I think The Mahatma would turn in his Grave if he had one to the sounds of his grandson. Arun is not a Yogi his intents may be good but he not that smart, well it happends in all familys look at the Bushes for example, exept at least Junior dose not hate Jews. Arun if you read this Shave your head, Fast, be of example to the world dont take sides it just fules hatered.
Om

Indian intelligentsia reeks with such Hindus dhimmis who demonize Hindus and defend the most infensible Islamic aggression.

Hindus in India have become second class citizens are result of the stranglehold of these Gandhi inspired dhimmis.

As a Hindu I am glad Arun got his just desserts. I hope his dhimmi partners in India take note.

Thanks Noga for taking time to respond and explain how anti- Semitism is defined.
To put simply anti-Semitism would mean action showing hatred towards jews as a collective or at a level of individual.
Can anyone explain I can be anti-Semitic. I have never been with jews, I don’t know personally any Jew whom I know enough to hate, the community and the country where I grew up and spent most of my life, one can hardly ever find a Jew, they never make news or are part of news. I am a believer in spirituality, call myself nearly atheist and Hindu by birth. More than that honesty I know nearly nothing about jewish religion. So given this circumstance how can I be anti-Semitic.
Noga, If I say many Jews have hatred towards say a kirawak tribe some where in southern Kenya. You would say, wait a minute, how could it be if we really don’t know who they are, how can jews hate them. To put bluntly this Kirawaks are exactly what jews are for me. I don’t know anything about either of them, they both might be having many good things to learn from their belief system, practices etc and lot to gain from them. If I feel like and have time I will try to know more about them, but why on earth I would hate either of them.
But if I see that Kirawaks are using force against their neighboring tribesmen say Mirawak’s, then I have a serious problem. I will speak vehemently against Kirawaks and be critical of them. Would any of my actions make me anti-Kirawaks or pro- Mirawaks. Well I don’t think so. I connect myself to Kirawaks, Mirawaks, Jews, Muslims and any other class at a human level. When any of them is attacked by another, I see that as an attack on Humanity and not just that particular group which is being attacked. This is how I try to see and interpret the world and this is what defines me.
My father taught me some thing which I believe is a really important lesson that I learnt in life. He used to tell that , I could be wrong and If you feel so, you should not stop questioning me just because I am your father and you should speak out. I had been critical of my father at times although I have highest regard for him.
Noga, if my actions qualify as anti-father then yes I am anti-Semitic too.
If one is labeled blankly as anti-semitic or Zionist, then how on earth can their point get across and how can there be any communication.

Israelis and Indians are united against a common enemy Islam.

The great mahatma gandhi once said, in that jewish theology and religious philosphy had strong ethics and indians can learn from the wisdom of the ancient jewish traditions in the kaballah and in the torah.

We are debating arun gandhi here. not mahatma gandhi. If those who even attempt to compare the two.. are going on a ridiculous path.

it is like comparing the violence of attile the hun and the violence of o.j. simpson.

one ravaged europe the other was alleged of murder of one or at most two.

anyway.

Israel and India are friends.
56 muslim countries hate israel.
palestinians, pakistanis, iranians, etc. want to bomb israel.

india on the contrary launches israels spy satellite into space.. to keep a tab on iran.

guess who is ally and enemy.

you all need to take a chill... for once.

and relax. before is hut down this website, if you piss me off, anymore.

jews hate black people.

jews are anti negro

ask a jew to let his daughter marry a negro.

if the negro protests the racism.
the jew shouts anti semitism.

lol

i love it.

negro vs jew

Kill Solomon for insulting for BAPU

yeh maderchod ko dhundho..

solomon kaha rehta hai

Sounds like a movie.

The last three are one person (a person who obviously skipped their meds).

I have not understood why criticising reliance on violence is anti-semetic. I am considerably less sympathetic towards Jews after all the vitriol over Arun Gandhi's article. It does seem that most Jews have become fanatical.

Bunty: There is a dissonance between your first and second statements. In the first you admit that you don't "why criticising reliance on violence is anti-semetic.". And then you conclude that "most Jews have become fanatical."

Since you don't understand, and clearly made no effort to understand what the problem is with Arun's comments, I find your conclusion incomprehensible and a non-sequitur. Therefore quite useless.

bunty, too bad for you that the Israelis are not the unarmed Jews of WW2 nazi infested Europe.

You must cry yourself to sleep every night.

Note that every airport in the World needs stringent security screening thanks to your heroes of the 9/11 sneak attack on the US.

Hello All,

What Mr.Gandhi wrote is not at all worng, incorrect or "anti-semite" per say, dosent everyone think that israel, zion or jews are really taking this symapathy wave a lot to far of to the extreme that the world sympathises so much with them that even killing and abusing palestinians for 30 years is being spared for them. common ppl dont u sympathis so much that one day they come to ur hous asking for water and the next day ur out asking others for water and anyways if any zionist reading this and u still think holocaust was bad enough to trouble u still send the females of ur family to me and ill take good care of them coz sympathy lasts for a week month or a year not for years on

w@rburg, you need to use a spelling checker and a sanity checker - because your comment fails on both counts.

Too bad for you that the Israelis are not the unarmed Jews of WW2 nazi vermin infested Europe.

jews are stupid.

all jewish girls in america fuck big dick black guys. where jewish guys fluster around as thier genetically imbibed business skills and education level are reducing to white trash levels across america.

the jews will replaced by the chinese and indians.

so fuck solomonia and fuck israel. who gives a fuck to these irrelevent fucks anyway.

let the arabs kill the jews or jews kill arabs.
kill each other..

more resources for us

Gandhi Jr's apparently been interviewed for a Holocaust denying site. There's a post about it ---and about the Wash. Post's negligence--at the excellent UK blog, Harry's place:

http://www.hurryupharry.org/2008/06/02/stop-making-rense/

I am sorry, but what is being posted here on this blog is sheer hyperbole, vitriol and ugly, exaggerated hate-speech (as much as from respondants as from the original blogger)

Neither Senior nor Junior Ghandi are or ever were anti-semetic. They never had been... your statement asserting otherwise shows not only a poor understanding of Indian History, but of World History in general.

You probabaly dont know about Gandhi's close association with the Jewish communities in Malabar... you probably dont even know what Malabar is.

Also, it is a tragedy that you may never know the contributions of India's Jewish Community to the Satyagraha movement, and you probably would resist learning about it because it would upset your anxious & self-serving world view. Get off the net and go to the LIBRARY... (you can only LEARN when you LISTEN).

Now, I am talking to YOU here on Salomania, NOT to the entire Jewish community... you DONT represent them, and please dont act like you do. Dont try to hide behind them to justify your own bigotry and blood-lust. Dont hide behind them to unburden yourself of having to acknowledge your OWN wrongdoings.

You guys here on Solomania are twisting facts in order to maintain a perspective that is cancerous to yourselves and to the world around you. Again, you are NOT the sole voice speaking for either Israel or the Jewish people. And many Jews, myself included, find your venemous rhetoric both embarassing and self-destructive.

People like you ought to be ashamed that you can use the internet to try to re-write history, and openly dismiss injustice, in order to simply feel that you are right. You smart under the realization that you are no different than your enemy, and neurotically assault any suggestion to that point. Like Hitler, Rios Montt or Jerry Falwell, you never think of how many people (on every side of the matter) must die just so you can "feel" righteous.

But you are NOT righteous,.. you simply ARE dead wrong, and that truth is quite evident out in the physical world, where the there isnt as much room for fabrication as there is here on the net.

Again, good clear-thinking Jewish people of faith are not represented by the kind of insanity you would have others comsume here. It isnt Jewish people who are fanatics, its you guys right here on Solomania.

Arun Gandhi's comments, like the ignorant nonsense preached by his grandfather (whom I refuse to call "Mahatma") are not really anti-semitic. They derive from dream-souled b.s. and the holier-than-thou notion that all human conflict can be resolved by the application of goody-goody moralism.

I too have been branded "anti-semitic" for daring to complain about Ashkenazi white racism against Americans of color. And I too angrily feel that to some extent, his resignation has to do with inordinate Jewish power and influence. If stating that supposedly makes me an anti-semite, I am proud to be one. Sympathizers of Israel (which includes me)should have responded by brutal rebuttal and counter-attack, not by this sanctimonious "Oh, you hurt our feelings!"

Israel is surrounded by hostile populations, many among whom would love to see her wiped off the Earth. Israel is also America's --- and India's --- best friend against terrorism. I do not deny that there may have been some cases of Israeli abuse. But are we getting the whole picture?

I have often been the black sheep of the Golikeri family for opining that Gandhi is an illusion and a myth that Indian people love to believe in because it makes them feel great. "Oh, we got rid of the mightiest power without a single shot."

That's a lie. It was nothing but unpleasant old violence that ended British rule. Bose and the INA, World War Two, and the Forgotten Indian Mutiny of February 1946.

Subhas Chandra Bose, not Gandhi, is the true father of Indian independence. Sure, he used Hitler against the British as a common enemy, but so did Israel co-operate with apartheid South Africa out of necessity. One might as well accuse Churchill or Roosevelt of being Stalinists because they worked with Stalin.

While in Berlin, Subhash did what no-one dared to do: he openly and publicly criticized Hitler's mistreatment of the Jews. Hitler needed Bose, so he bitterly tolerated his mouthings.

So while a "violent" man like Subhash Chandra Bose openly tells Hitler off on German soil about cruelty to Jews, this "man of peace," grandson of a similar idiot, blames the victim. Hmm...real life has more irony than stage theatrics.

In looking at your site for the first time, the editorial you wrote as well as the venomous responses from your readers is remarkably inflamatory. Some of what Arun Gandhi said you need to look at in yourself with what you are doing:

"Apparently, in the modern world, so determined to live by the bomb, this is an alien concept. YOU DON'T WANT TO BEFRIEND, YOU WANT TO DOMINATE THEM. We have created a culture of violence and that Culture of Violence is eventually going to destroy humanity."

You are promulgating a culture of violence.
And that culture is destroying us.

Anne, just WHO is

- setting off explosives hidden in their underwear and sneakers
- kidnapping and beheading bound captives like journalist Daniel Pearl
- shooting fellow soldiers while screaming "allahu akbar"
- placing bombs on passenger planes like Pan Am 103
- dynamiting 1,500 year old Buddhas in Bamiyan Afghanistan
- using WMDs to gas 5,000 Kurds to death
- threatening to wipe Israel off the map while straight faced claiming that their nuke program is for "peace"
- is murdering Hindus in India
- is setting churches in Nigeria on fire
- threatening the UK with its own 9/11
- is celebrating "the magnificent 19" of 9/11 at the Finsbury Park mosque
- is killing their own girls for a families "honor"

- is claiming from the mosque that Islam is not to be equal to other religions, but to be superior and dominate non-muslims

It ain't the Jews...

It's the oxymoron called "The Religion of Peace"
