Raw, traditional, no other word for it, anti-Semitism. From the Protocols to the Talmud to the idea that Jews corrupt from within had themselves to blame for the Holocaust. Just another day in Middle Eastern media...but don't dare say "Islamofascism" (or even discuss it!) -- that would be wrong. People may protest.

MEMRI TV: TV Channel Affiliated with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Beri in a Show Dedicated to The Protocols of the Elders of Zion: Jews Use Drug Trafficking to Take Control of the World and Subjugate Other Nations

Maria Maalouf: "On land and in the heavens - the use that American and Israeli Zionism makes of the weapon of drugs in order to thwart intifadas and revolutions cannot be justified by the American claims about the intensification of the struggle on land, as long as the Jews purport to have their own private god in the heavens, who commanded them to annihilate the nations and peoples of the world, using drugs and causing anxiety, and numbing the mental, psychological, and physical capabilities of non-Jews, as written in the Talmud or The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

"Isn't it true that these Jewish plots to corrupt the peoples were described by American 'plot-disrupters,' such as Benjamin Franklin and Henry Ford, and even by some Jews, like Alfred Lilienthal, and even Karl Marx, who, more than 150 years ago, exposed in his book On the Jewish Question that there was an instinct within the Jewish individual that drives him to take control of the world, by means of illegal money - which is known today as 'money laundering?'"...

...Narrator: "The Koran said about them: 'They strive to spread corruption throughout the land.' Spreading corruption throughout the land is the declared goal of the Zionist hands of evil, which are infiltrating the world. The Zionists have summarized their destructive principles in what has become known as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which contains their secret plan to subjugate the entire world by spreading chaos and promiscuity among the nations, by imposing corrupt and depraved ideologies on human minds, and by destroying the foundations of religion, nationalism, and morality...

And on, and on, and on...

There's a remarkable discussion going on back in this thread over a single Hebrew word and whether an Israeli functionary implied that Israeli troops were going to perform a genocide. Native Hebrew speakers and a professional translator are having no... Read More

This is terrible. It's inexcuseable in this day and age.

Berri is apparently a mouthpiece for Hezbollah in the Lebanese parliment, although he officially represents Amal (another Shia group).

Hezbollah and Hamas both rely heavily on "The Protocols" for their views of Jews and sadly state-sponsored TV programs in Egypt and Syria (and probably others) have run extremely bigoted "dramas" portraying Jews in truly medieval terms, combining Western and Eastern antisemitism in a truly noxious brew. People forget that there have been pogroms in the Middle East, blood libels, and that both Christian and Muslim religious tracts condemn Jews explicitly and portray us in varying degrees as undesireable to say the least.

Media running this type of propaganda reach tens of millions of people every day and few have ever met an actual Jew or have any experience or knowledge to counteract the affects of this obnoxious poison.

Sabeel isn't much better though are they and they're "Christian" and theoretically at least, "left wing," although I don't know how people can call them left since they rely upon medieval religious ideas themselves and the left is (theoretically) progressive. I've also read (and heard) some really vile stuff from Copts and other Eastern Christian groups - it dates back almost 2,000 years and it's backed with all the power of belief.

Every bit as worrisome, former US Senator Abourezk has made some pretty obnoxious comments on Lebanese TV IN ENGLISH so nobody can try to blame MEMRI for the translation.

How can people ignore this truly raw antisemitism and how can it be ignored as an historical motive driving conflict between Arabs and Jews since the Protocols were published in the Arab world (probably in 1920)? How can people ignore religious influences when discussing the history of Jews and the Arab world in the 20th and 21st centuries, ie "modern times"?

Finally, how can people ignore the influence of Hitler on the Middle East? He's alive and well and living in the voices of these "leaders" and I find it appalling that the UN and "the elders" (Carter, Tutu, et.al.) aren't screaming bloody murder about it, since they are supposedly concerned about human rights.

?

All this Islamofascist bullshit is old news.

What really bugs Islamofascists is that the Israelis are not the jizza paying dhimmis of the "good 'ole days".

The Israeli Jews are equipped to defend themselves and punish any and all attackers.

And it's not just "Jews" who disregard the Koran passages that vilifiy them, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians have bested the Religion of Peace.

What's a Islamofascist to do but rip their hair out. "It's not supposed to be this way!"

May the Islamofascists continue to fail and realize that their holy Quran is filled with lies.

Ah, Sophia, I just commented about this video on Augean Stables in response to your joint-posting with Richard Landes. I had read your post just after viewing this video, and I couldn't help thinking of the video when I saw your reference to the fact that Arabs still read The Protocols and Mein Kampf.

As I said there, this seems to be a "news" broadcast from an alternate universe, from through the looking glass. I cannot believe that serious adults--whatever their ideology--would participate in such a broadcast, or would watch it and take it seriously.

Hi Joanne - I've been so crazed (getting students ready for a recital, etc:) I just saw your post and the joint post on Augean Stables.

I will write more there and find the link about the Brit who blamed Israel for deflecting attention from Global Warming.

This is seriously distressing and I'm angry with leaders who SHOULD be concerned about humanitarian issues - like this incitement to mass murder - for ignoring it. Instead they rail at MEMRI.

It also concerns me that people are not learning this history and this present day madness in school. If they were at least studying it then people could draw some rational conclusions about the nature of some apparently intractable conflicts. Then, maybe we'd have some chance of solving our problems.

But, a lecture by the German historian and political scientist, Matthais Kuntzel, who's studied Nazi propaganda in the Middle East extensively, and its lingering effects, was cancelled recently. He was to have appeared at university in England but people objected on the astonishing grounds that this topic is Politically Incorrect.

Unreal.

BTW the British website Harry's tracks these things. I read it frequently because I think what happens in Britain is very important for the US, Europe and of course Israel and the Jewish people as well as the Middle East in general (and I am not reassured).

I heard about Kuntzel. Amazing. And I read Harry's Place, too. Along with Solomonia and Augean Stables, it's one of my favorite blogs. And you're probably right when you say that whatever happens in Britain is important here. That's because our intellectuals look up to those in Europe, especially the British and the French. A pretty depressing thought, huh?

I have always believed that a man could be better judged by his enemies than by his friends, since they are more constant through good fortune and bad. Similarly, the Jews seem to always have the most despicable specimens of mankind as their enemies – ignorant, and proud of it; arrogant, with their pride not supported by any record of accomplishment; and violent without courage.

No clearer sign of God's favor could be required.

Those are nice thoughts, Mitch, thanks.

But I wish that God would show His favor for Israel by giving her a LACK of enemies, rather than the most despicable ones. Or how about giving Israel the very best of friends? :-)

"What looked like secularization was merely a veneer laid over a society that had been proudly Muslim for over a millenium. Moreover, the ostensible engine of Arab modernization -- Arab nationalism -- was little more than an elevated tribal covenant."
