IE6 seems to be the common denominator that has visitors crashing here. Unfortunately, I don't have IE6 on any of my computers, so I'm going back and forth with someone in email trying to narrow it down. Please bear with me.

Update 14:05 EDT: Very frustrating. I'm ditching some Amazon code that may be an issue. IE6 users, please let me know if you're still having trouble.

Update: 14:57 EDT: The problem seems to be in the mshtml.dll file. Please be sure your IE6 is fully up to date and patched while I work out coding issues.

I removed almost everything while trying to narrow down the issue. In spite of the fact that pretty everything but the most basic html has been removed, and my correspondent is still getting occasional crashes, I'm thinking it may be he who has the issue at this point. I'm going to add some stuff back in and see if I've guess right at the problem.

I haven't run into the problem with IE6 on an up-to-date Win2K box, IE7 on XP or, my main browser, FF on XP, though sometimes Win2K.

I was getting crashes from your site the last day or so, but it's not happening now.

The devil shits, and Internet Explorer eats.

I think the crashing is fixed (oh yeah, I've said that before), and didn't have to do with my coding anyway.

Now I'm looking into a highlighting issue some IE users are having.

It's an intermittent problem with me when I visit your blog. Sometimes it freezes my computer, sometimes not. Unfortunately, there is no rhyme or reason as to when it will occur.

It's totally unacceptable that a page should cause any crashes at all. Hopefully I've got it under control now. I've validated my code for the index page and brought the invalid xhtml way down (this shouldn't be causing crashes, but who freakin' knows) and I'll be working my way through the other templates but it's mind-numbingly time consuming. I know there's still an issue with IE and highlighting text, that's on the agenda as well, but not live or die.

By the way Firebug addon on Firefox tells me that there is 1 error on your comments page.
Don't know if this means anything but for what it's worth here's the story:

"commenter_name is not defined mt-renamedcomment ... (line 168)

if(commenter_name) {hideDocumentElement('comments-open-challenge'); } else {s...

Thanks. I've known about that one for awhile, though it doesn't seem to affect anything. I will sort it out eventually. I know nothing about that code so I'll have to inquire.
