An article about the far-left's potential to push more Jews over to the Republicans: Left could push pro-Israel voters to GOP. Mostly run of the mill stuff that readers here will be familiar with, but what's most interesting are the comments which are full of people taking issue with the premise -- that the Democrats are at risk of losing some of their Jewish support -- by making the argument in favor of less support for Israel. There's a contradiction in there somewhere.

This argument assumes that Jews only base their votes on Israel. Sure, it weighs in the balance. But so do health care, abortion issues, gay rights, other aspects of foreign policy (Iraq!), education, social justice, separation of church and state, etc.

Anyway, neither party will come out with a totally anti-Israeli policy. It just can't happen in this country. More Democrats than Republicans are cold towards Israel, but that doesn't mean their politicians will be.

I always wondered how important the Jewish vote really is. We are a tiny percentage of the electorate. We vote overwhelmingly Democratic, so, like the blacks, we can be taken a bit for granted. And, except for Florida, we don't live in swing states.

With "democrats" like Dhimmi Carter siding with anti-American, anti-Israeli leftists, who can be surprised that some Jews may stay registered Democrats but VOTE Republican.
