Ofir Winter: Ayman Nour's Vision for the Middle East - 'In recent years, Ayman Nour has emerged as a prominent leader of the Egyptian liberal opposition. Although Israel is not the focus of his discourse, it is, nevertheless, not entirely ignored. This article examines Nour's attitude towards Israel through three criteria: First, his views on the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty and normalizing relations with Israel; Second, the discrepancy between his respective approaches to the United States and Israel; Third, his vision for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the future of Egypt-Israel relations. This article argues that what constitutes a liberal Egyptian leader is not necessarily synonymous with better serving American interests in the Middle East. In fact, the scenario of Ayman Nour rising to power is likely to prove detrimental towards at least one major American interest: the stability of the Egyptian-Israeli peace relations...'
