This is just a quick link to follow -- an "aside." These are links to interesting things that, for one reason or another, I didn't place into a full posting. Click the link to visit the full article. Go to the blog index for a regular listing of posts.

Mary Jackson: Geert Wilders Respects Muslims, British Government Doesn't - 'The hasty decision to ban Wilders shows how the UK looks at Muslims not as people, but as savage beasts...February 12 was a black day for Britain. A democratically elected, law-abiding member of the Dutch parliament was treated like a criminal, seized at Heathrow airport, and sent home. A man who has not preached a word of violence, but has himself received death threats, was summarily ejected from this country in an uncivil and in every way uncivilized fashion, by a Home Office that welcomes criminals and terrorists with open arms. Why? Because his film Fitna tells uncomfortable truths about Islam. The expression "Churchill would be turning in his grave," sometimes hyperbolically trotted out in reaction to a banned piggy bank or halal pizza parlor, now fits...'

Quite.

And are Ms Shame of ... I mean Shami Chakrabarti and her 'Liberty' friends up in arms over this innocent man's treatment? You bet your bottom euro they're not!

It is most un-PC to suggest so, so I will. Is Geert Wilders too blond? Are his eyes too blue?

I am entirely SICK of the behaviour of my government over this matter and more so over the compliant and docile press on the issue of Free Speech.

The same press that squeals that we have lost all our human/civil rights over the last 11 or so years. The same press that tries to snatch back defeat out of the jaws of victory when we are making inroads into this country's REAL problem - creeping Islamicist fundamentalism.

The same press which in some numbers spend their time vainly trying to get another blue-eyed boy to the Netherlands - Tony Blair to The Hague.

I am utterly, utterly embarrassed about MY once great country. And deeply ashamed. I now have people writing to me at my blog from such places as Indonesia incredulous over Wilders' "deportation".

THEY are quoting the Magna Carta to ME!

The same Magna Carta that Chakrabarti likes to mention in her traducing of the present government and in particular of the previous PM.

These people including imported lawyers, 1st/2nd/3rd generation immigrants who tell us that WE are letting down OUR country can go to hell! In other words back to their own countries, from whence they came in search of a better life (which we willingly handed them on a plate for the last 30 years or more). And they can take their hell-makers with them.

And this is from someone who used to be a "liberal". Nowadays not one of the three main political parties speaks for me.

So, since I have not a racist bone in my body, though I believe many of the liberal Left DO, I am now disenfranchised.

I am hoping that Mr Wilders will take our present government to court over this.

The only trouble is that when they fall - what will we get? A vacuous, rudderless Tory party by default and/or a Liberal Democratic party which understands neither liberalism nor democracy.

I was wondering the very same thing as the first commenter regarding the deafening silence from Liberty, allegedly the defenders of free speech, So I phone them up, them having not answered any emails. The reason I called was that I heard someone on The World At One saying how terrible it was that we were all being so nasty to poor Abu Qatada. As this story was only from this morning and they were so quick off the mark, I thought "Hmmm, I must have missed something here regarding Wilders".

I have just been told on the phone by a New Zealand sounding lady that they are "really busy this week and there won't be any statement coming as the whole Geert Wilders thing has been and gone now". When I asked "Why wasn't a statement issued at the time, and would you be prepared to let me know Liberty's stand on this?" I was told "Sorry, I really have to go now". The whole call took under a minute.

PLEASE call, write or email Liberty and keep the pressure on, and politely but firmly re-assure them that the story has not "been and gone"!

This is really really important - a strong test of what Liberty really means and where their allegiance lies.
