This is just a quick link to follow -- an "aside." These are links to interesting things that, for one reason or another, I didn't place into a full posting. Click the link to visit the full article. Go to the blog index for a regular listing of posts.

Adloyada: BBC Starts the Week with claim that Israel is like the Nazis - 'This morning's BBC Radio 4 Start the Week programme gave a good slot of its time to Eva Figes, who volubly claimed that the Israelis are like the Nazis. Yes, she said during the broadcast, I know they're not running extermination camps, but that's only because they know people would find out. She went on to complain that all Israelis are filled with hate, and that they hated Holocaust survivors who came to Israel and only put up with them because they had to in order to start the state...'

The woman sounds like an idiot. Imagine basing her views of Israel on the bad experience (as she tells it) of one other person. I'm sure that, in those days, Jews were psychological walking wounds with a lot of problems and raw emotions to sort out. So what? That was understandable. But for the BBC to give such attention to this cipher is amazing.

If someone wrote a pro-Israel book that was based on similarly superficial grounds, focusing on the good experiences of one person, I can well imagine that he or she would never make it onto the BBC.

Unfortunately, for BBC it isn't amazing - it's typical.

Alas.
