After the unforgivable, someone, perhaps her employer (Hearst?), instructed Thomas in the correct grunts she was now expected to make:

Helen Thomas issued the following statement today: "I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon."

Which is, of course, a load of crap. Her initial statement was how she feels, and this boiler-plate BS doesn't even come close to making up for it. Are we supposed to be idiots? Time for the glue factory already.

Update: A reminder that this thing took place during the White House celebration of Jewish History Month.
