Paging Judge Goldstone: Saudis launches offensive against Yemen rebels

...The northern rebels, known as Hawthis, have been battling Yemeni government forces the past few months in the latest flare-up of a sporadic five-year conflict. They claim their needs are ignored by a Yemeni government that is increasingly allied with hard-line Sunni fundamentalists, who consider Shiites heretics.

The rebels said the Saudi airstrikes hit five areas in their northern stronghold Thursday but it was not possible to independently verify the reports. They said there were dead and wounded, and that homes were destroyed. The rebels' spokesman said people were afraid to get near the areas being bombed, making it difficult to count the casualties.

"Saudi jets dropped bombs on a crowded areas including a local market in the northern province of Saada," Hawthi spokesman Mohammed Abdel-Salam told The Associated Press. "They claim they are targeting al-Hawthis, but regrettably they are killing civilians like the government does."

He said the attacks were followed by hundreds of artillery shells from the border.

"So far, three killed have been pulled out of the rubble, including a woman and a child who perished when their houses were bombed and burned down," said Abdel-Salam...

Just sayin'. [h/t: Seva]

Quran Bukhari (52:256 is in conflict with the accusations of the Goldstone Report and would be against GoldStone's conception of "International Law". Should we assume that Islam is against the Goldstone as well? of course we all know that this international law doesn't exist anyway, but if it did it would outlaw Islam. Since the Organisation of The Islamic Conference was behind the Goldstone Report. I find that ironic.

Bukhari (52:256) "The Prophet... was asked whether it was permissible to attack the pagan warriors at night with the probability of exposing their women and children to danger. The Prophet replied, "They (i.e. women and children) are from them (i.e. pagans).""

and quoted from this blog:

"Stating that a counter-attack will be disproportionate to the attack isn't a violation of the rule of distinction. The rule of distinction requires that Israel not aim its fire at civilians as such. It has nothing to do with how much fire Israel can aim at legitimate targets."... ..."Even if the facts were as Goldstone stated them, and the owner was absolutely innocent, the launching point of rockets would still be a legitimate target, and it would be permissible to attack it if the collateral damage were proportionate to anticipated military advantage, notwithstanding the damage to an innocent owner."

Mr.Noah you are a typical to me the amount of ignorance is not astonishing anymore in these type of responces. The leader of it well know and their writings are in websites....and no coincednce they all support the terrorism of israel.

there is something called causative phenomena that when studiying situations and verses and hadieth or any other thing you have to take into account, but you seem to jump over this. the formost important thing is to proof tha israel is not a terroist nation (may we see tzipi and her gang in the huage court where criminals are supposed to be).

first the hadieth is a question by someone,to the prophet, and this implies that there is an exception! if killing women and children is a normal thing he wont ask. then above that it in night! that means they really care even at night, and if you dont know how the nights in places away from modern cities are then you may want to go camp at night an see.
thirdly the responce was, they are from them.....which is not a goo ahead to kill children and women, but its a responce that means if they get killed then they are from them.

know this astonishing care of humen rights before 1400 years ago.......by befuin people, not intelectuals of these days like the ones you take from them these hadieths (daniel pipes) who call israel terroism selfdefence and try with all strength to deny that what israel does is terroism. beduins! vs false intelectuals.

and the proof is that arabs never kill children and women in wars even before islam, its well know and nobody can deny it,and islam came to even make it more (you may want to see the hadieth that no trees or houses to be cut or buriend, and no demolishing of places of worship ....)

indeed when people try to justify terroirism they become weakminded and thetruths comes from the lies you try to promote, either wilingly or because using the islamic scriptures is not your field in the first place. so know I suggst you see your scriptures that were handed to israeli soldiers to kill palestenians like the old israeliens did,,kill everything...! there are to chapters in the genuises that if you read you may not sleep for two weeks out of horrer! and remeber...these scriptures were handded to israelie solders.....! and in this hadieth,a soldier comes and askes if i killed a women or chiled at night by mistake.. compare

compare a solder in the Israel offence force, gays night clubs and exc........care for humanity!

as for the saudi protecting its boder, well i dont think any nation can be blamed for protecting its border, plus the houthies are not a reliable source.

and goldstone,if there is a reason for him to investigate anything, may come because the saudies didnt kill 1400, 700 of them civilians ! (remeber the cast lead was to terrorize civilians and all arabs that israel wont loose agian like in lebanon) so the reason behind things matter indeed.

I don't think anybody should try to justify terrorism either.

I also agree that 1400 years ago, for people to have been concerned with human rights, it is excellent and we should continue having this concern.

And, I agree Saudi Arabia has a right to defend its border.

But, so does Israel, and Israel also has a right to defend the civilian population from terrorist attacks be they via rocket or suicide bomber or for that matter all these wars - it doesn't matter really.

I was upset by Operation Cast Lead. I don't know though what if anything else would stop the rocket fire.

I myself probably would have tried something - anything - else.

But then I am not being shot at every day.

And neither are you - we really have to try and empathize with the people who are and who can't live their lives because of terror from Gaza.

The people of Gaza didn't have to attack Israel. The Strip was completely vacated, not even one Jewish bone remains there.

Economic infrastructure, farms etc were given to the people of Gaza and were destroyed and pipes that were supposed to fix the sewage plant came back over the border, packed with explosives.

What do you suggest?

the saudies as you said have the right to protect their borders(although I susspect that saudies are preparing for far more serious problems with the yemen border given yeman is a seriously failed state, and whatever money or help the government gets is vanishes somehwere,)

any ways i just want to say that in saudi and houthi situation there is no )existentialism question),or land problems or the other spheres that the israeli palestenian issue has.

so comparing really isnt a good idea, except if you want to simplify things.

as to isrel defening its borders, i may tell you yes it has the right...every nation has.

but then does israel has the right to exist, or do israeliens give palestenians the right to exist.(ofcourse you know all the theorize coined, land without people, they ran away and left their lands(this has more truth than the previous)...or the big list that continues. or the temple.)

Hi Arabian,

I think if weren't for outside pressures, incitement etc the Israelis and the Palestinians would be getting along better than they are. I think they've fallen prey to extremists who don't want to see a peaceful Middle East.

During the Cold War this was obviously a proxy battleground between the Soviets and the West and there were still many scars from WWII even and from the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

But now that's over.

Is is possible now to move forward and try to heal over the wounds? I think for most, yes - for some, there won't be acceptance unless their attitudes change. There are religious issues that must be respected, the Christians, Muslims and Jews all have their own ideas and prejudices but since we all come from the same roots we ought to be able to communicate better.

In the meantime, maybe people could try slowly to learn mutual respect and understanding?

This means the ability to compromise and trust each other. As long as people are frightened and think "the other guy" wants to hurt them or is evil, it will be difficult to make amends.

So, it's important to take things day by day for awhile. The less violence the better, the more state-building and confidence-building the better, don't you think? It really looks like a lot of good things are happening on the West Bank.

I think if people felt more comfortable with each other you'd see walls falling down - but I think people need to be patient because there's so much bitterness and hurt right now and also fear.

I do think people need to stop beating the Israelis over the head with the thought that they shouldn't exist. That's guaranteed to make them crazy especially considering their history and especially considering their roots are in Israel and most Israeli Jews are Middle Eastern, from the Arab world in fact or Africa, though some obviously have come from the West.

So of course they have a right to exist but more importantly even - they do exist - 7 million people including a lot of Arabs.

Trying to harm those people and their state is just wrong. They're created something really unique and it's a shame more people in the Middle East don't appreciate what can be accomplished, how people from all over, of various faiths, can come together and build something together.

Meanwhile though it's important to help the Palestinians in meaningful ways and if that includes donations of land from neighboring states besides Israel, then that should be considered. And, Palestinians shouldn't be mistreated by other Arabs.

After all the Arab League Nations control 1/9 of the world's land and immense resources. Israel exists on about .01% of that land and has practially no resources.

Maybe people need to think a little more creatively? We can work this out!

PS I hope the situation with Yemen doesn't get too bad and that you and your folks are safe.

"Islam is not merely a personal religion but also the basis of a political community. If non-Muslims were entitled to the same rights as the faithful, then belief in God's final and perfect message as revealed in the Quran through his prophet Muhammad would be irrelevant, and the basis of the community would cease to exist."
