Please people, we're a democracy, not a personality cult. This is just embarrassing. I almost didn't post this. After all, historic election and all, even if you do think what the guy stands for is a disaster, and what his election says about the direction of the country is just too depressing to talk about...but still, this is getting creepy.

Getting creepy?

Remember this?

We're in for a run of creepy. Think of it, if you like, as the antithesis of Bush Derangement Syndrome. To every action there is a reaction; in response to unreasoning blind hatred comes unreasoning blind love.

And the scary part is that President Obama thrives on it, and seems to enjoy feeding the hysteria. (It got him elected, didn't it?) He must know that he can't possibly live up to the billing he wrote for himself; what does he expect will happen next?

I expect that, when disillusionment sets in, it'll set in hard... and that we'll be in for a nasty backlash against affirmative action, among other things. Hang on.

respectfully,
Daniel in Brookline

I'm not embarrassed by it, I'm terrified of it. People are acting like everything is, and will be, fine. There will be countries that do not survive what is going on, at least in their present form and America might very well be one of them. It is nearly a given that some of the former Soviet bloc countries will be reabsorbed and the communists of South America may wind up dominant. Europe may change dramatically as well. And no country will be able to oppose the changes. To be expansively generous to Obama, the only great thing he has ever done has been to deliver a good speech using a teleprompter. This irrational personality worship will wind up killing America. (jmio)
