You thought it was just a campaign commercial, featuring Paris Hilton and Britney Spears...and Barack Obama. Effective or not (I say fairly effective), I bet you didn't know what the real, subliminal message was...no, not racism...violence. Thanks to Huffington Post blogger Michael Shaw for alerting us to this disturbing piece of political ghastliness: Reading The Celeb Video: Exploding Obama At The Subliminal Level. Yes, that's right, the sub-rosa message of the vid is...assassination.

It's a hallmark of conspiracy theories everywhere that everything is intentional. Read the comments, they are a hoot...or something worse. Having unmasked the true nefarious intent of the ad, commenters call for appropriate action to be taken.

Good grief.

Update: Amazingly (or not), the New York Times isn't far behind.

Interesting. The same lefty-types who scream that not all criticism of Israel is necessarily anti-Semitic seem to feel that any criticism of a Black candidate is racist.

Wow. Who knows, but I suspect this reveals a type of paranoia, where any particularly meaningful or probative criticism of their much vaunted candidate, reflecting a piercing of his armor, needs to be met with the most aggressive defense imaginable. In one sense it's very, very strange, in another sense it's positively comical that they feel the need to re-act so instinctively, with such arch suspicion.

I thought it was a rather effective video, an effective reveal of Obama as celebrity and the shallowness and veneer that reflects. E.g., again, here, where no matter how silly and preposterous his "solution," he speaks with the same rhetorical facade, the same faux authoritative "trust me" self-confidence. It's strangely comical in a Monty Python sense.

That is a great summary.

I also wonder whether the left, which loves to portray GWB as a chimp in various poses, would accept a portrayal of a "President Obama" as a chimp too?

Or would ANY criticism or lampooning of a "President Obama" be RACIST!!!

The answer is obvious.
