With the '60s generation now running the asylums, I wonder how we're doing on Reagan's advice. Do the people most able to carry forward the message to the next generation have anything more than contempt for the idea? I've been pleased so far with the local teachers (1st grade)...I have a feeling it's all down hill from here.
With a rising High school senior and a rising college junior, I can tell you I'm not as worried as I might be.
Whether it's the natural tendency to question and be contrary, or whether it's the parental input, neither of mine are at danger of being brain-washed by the left leaning teachers that seem to out number conservatives by a large margin.
In fact it's refreshing to hear my oldest making fun of the more leftist professors she has come across. She is still full of optimism and a youthful idealism, but it hasn't blinded her to the failings of the liberal 'establishment.' Neither she nor her friends have fallen for the Obama mystique.
My guess is, that even in Mass., you'll continue to be generally pleased with the teachers... especially as these aging lefties are replaced. As is usually the case, the young deserve much more credit than society gives them.
"Syme: It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. You wouldn't have seen the [Newspeak] Dictionary 10th edition, would you Smith? It's that thick. [illustrates thickness with fingers] The 11th Edition will be that [narrows fingers] thick. Winston Smith: So, The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect? Syme: The secret is to move from translation, to direct thought, to automatic response. No need for self-discipline. Language coming from here [the larynx], not from here
[the brain]" -1984 (film)
