Hi- I've posted here occassionally. And I live in Peduel.

We are located in the first range of foothills in Israel's central mountain range. We are only 450 meters above sea level - the Gaza pullout included abandonment of 5 small settlements north and east of us, where the mountains are higher. Those settlements commanded even broader views of Haifa and the Galilee area.

This photo uses a telephoto to isolate part of the skyline, but it does reflect what we see from Peduel. We can clearly identify individual buildings in downtown Tel-Aviv - including the new buildings of Azrieli Center and the nearby radio towers of the "kirya" - Israel's Pentagon-like military campus, which over decades was engulfed by the expansion of Tel-Aviv.

Not visible in this slice of the view - but clealy visible from Peduel - is the Reading power plant, one of Israel's main electricity generating facilities. On a clear day, we can also see the larger Hadera generation plant further up the coast.

Obviously, all this area is within range of a simple shoulder-launched or portable missile systems. A return to 1967 borders will put the place from which this photo was taken into enemy hands - enemies who have been stockpiling just such weaponry. It would leave Israel between 15 and 20 miles wide in this most heavily populated region of the country.

The dark blue band beyond the buildings isn't smog - it's the Mediterranean!

Peduel is where this picture was taken.
