FACT

Jews have been living in Jerusalem continuously for nearly two millennia. They have constituted the largest single group of inhabitants there since the 1840’s. Jerusalem contains the Western Wall of the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism.

Jerusalem was never the capital of any Arab entity. In fact, it was a backwater for most of Arab history. Jerusalem never served as a provincial capital under Muslim rule nor was it ever a Muslim cultural center. For Jews, the entire city is sacred, but Muslims revere a site — the Dome of the Rock — not the city. “To a Muslim,” observed British writer Christopher Sykes, “there is a profound difference between Jerusalem and Mecca or Medina. The latter are holy places containing holy sites.” Besides the Dome of the Rock, he noted, Jerusalem has no major Islamic significance.

[See extended entry for population chart which I assume includes the entire "municipality," and not just the "Old City" from which the Jews were expelled en masse in 1948. -S]

jeruslem is an arabic city, Israel took Jeruslim from the arabs after the 1967 war.
FACT

Instructive. Arab/Muslims conquer, ethnically cleanse and illegally occupy, but that's OK. If someone takes it back, all that inconvenient history can just be ignored. Once Arab/Muslim (by whatever means necessary, apparently), always Arab/Muslim.

how can arabs/muslims
ethnically cleanse and illegally occupy jews, when the table you posted shows jews outnumbering arabs?
even before the Israelian state

There is a big question mark on what you posted and your recent reply.

not to my sack but to the sake of presenting true and accurate data.

On the other hand, arabs lived in jeruslim for thousands of years.... I really dont know how Israel brings jews from Yemen,Ethoipia, Russia, Argentina,Poland..... and give them passports claiming thats their land. while the real habitants of Palestine are kicked out living in (camps and tents) in lebanon , syria, Jordan and all around the arab world.

sorry my friend solomon

but can you
enlighten us on how arabs ethnically cleansed jews and when?

to further support your claim.

"can you enlighten us on how arabs ethnically cleansed jews and when?"

Here is one example that comes to mind:

"On the afternoon of Friday, August 23, 1929 Jerusalem Arabs came to Hebron with false reports of Jews murdering Arabs during the rioting there, even saying thousands of Arabs had been killed. Despite the fact that Jews and Arabs in Hebron had been on good terms, a mass of frenzied Arab rioters formed and proceeded to the Hebron Yeshiva where a lone student was murdered. The next day, the Jewish Sabbath, the killing continued as an Arab mob of hundreds surrounded homes where Jews sought refuge, broke in and murdered scores of Jews in a bloody rampage.

The dead Jews that day included Eliezer Dan Slonim, a man highly esteemed by the Arabs. He was the director of the local English-Palestine bank whose many clients were Arabs, and was the sole Jewish member of the Hebron Municipal Council. He had many friends among the Arab elders, who had promised to protect him. Twenty-two people died in Slonim's house that day including his wife and two young children.

By the end of the riot, during which the British police did nothing to protect the Jews or stop the violence, sixty-seven Jews were dead and hundreds wounded. The survivors were isolated in a police station for three days while the Arabs rampaged through their houses, stealing and destroying Jewish property, unmolested by the British authorities. At the end of the three days the Jews were sent to Jerusalem, exiled from their homes for the crime of being a victim of the Arab riot. Hebron's ancient Jewish quarter was empty and destroyed. For the next 39 years no Jew lived in Hebron, not until after it was liberated by the Israeli military during the Six Day War in 1967."

arabian19, I would suggest exploring the history of Jerusalem in 1948 during Israel's War for Independence when the Jordanians seized the Old City, drove out the Jews and destroyed 58 of 59 Synagogues. Some of this damage is still in the process of being reversed.

The problem with Arabian/Muslim invaders is that they are motivated by the Koran to invade non-Muslim societies, conquer them and impose Islam on a non-Muslim population.

This can be seen today in the openly stated aims of Omar M. Ahmad founder of CAIR and similar Muslim leaders in the UK who for example demand that banks close to observe Muslim holidays in the UK.

Non-Muslim houses of worship have been destroyed and Mosques built on the ruins.

The Al Aksa mosque is an example of a Mosque built on the site of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.

The destruction of Josephs Tomb was a video documented example of Muslim destruction of a non-Muslim holy site.

Bloody examples of this decidedly non-peaceful behavior are easily found with Google using search terms "hindu temple mosque" or "church destroyed mosque".

The infamous crossed swords in Iraq.

The sword on the Saudi Arabian flag.

The carving out of India of a Muslim majority entity called the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

You get the picture.

BTW, do you recognize that Judaism existed BEFORE Islam? Moses was a Jew, NOT a Muslim.

Moses is mentioned in the Koran. Your Prophet Mohammed is not mentioned in the Torah or New Testament.

Islam is the new kid on the block, and a violent one at that.

solomon, thanks for the information
I always like to read what the other side say about a certain incident, and compare it with what information I have.

eddie, I really think you represent radical thoughts and infected by the biased news syndrome
i really feel sad for you circulating around this kind of inaccurate information

arabian19, PLEASE tell your friends and family who dream of the destroying Israel, ZIONIST Israel, that if the US or Hindu India or Israel suffer a nuclear bomb attack, a most probable response would be the utter, total, RETALIATORY destruction of the "holy cities" of Mecca and the Kabba, Medina and Qom, for starters.

An Islamofascist WMD attack on a civilized, non-Muslim city would trigger a devastating response on the target rich 1.6 billion Muslim world.

We've all heard that your fellow fanatical Muslims CRAVE DEATH. Fine. Do your fellow Muslims also CRAVE the destruction of Mecca and the Kabba?

Please don't be so naive to think that Mecca and the Kabbah can not be be destroyed in RESPONSE to an Islamofascist attack.

Mecca and the Kabba can continue to exist, as a courtesy, by the non-Muslim world.

the foreign affairs minister Tzipi Livn said yesterday that deporting the arabs from jeruslem (arabs of 48) is important in the process of making israel a jewish state.

other than the seperating wall i believe this is truley an example of Apartheid

moreover i Believ after reading what Israel forign minister remarked to..

that the apartheid in SouthAfrica is no match to what Israel did by extracting the arabs fro their homelands and taking whats under the land and whats over the land in order to make phalastien jewish

but to make the picture clearer to the westerners who know exactly whats the southafrican apartheid, its eisier to use the word aparthied to whats happening in phaliestien,

whilst whats happening there is much more cruel

There is a strange ebb and flow in the linguistic fluency exhibited by Arabian19.

Some of his/her comments are done in pretty good idiomatic English, such as in this example: "I really think you represent radical thoughts and infected by the biased news syndrome".

And sometimes it is written in pretty bad English, such as in this example: "what Israel did by extracting the arabs fro their homelands and taking whats under the land and whats over the land in order to make phalastien jewish".

It wouldn't surprise me if Arabian19 is just a locus designation for Slomonia. Which means that whoever is on propaganda duty at a given moment would be A19 when posting here. In which case, there seems to be little merit in debating with that poster since it is not an individual poster out to find out truth and reason, but just an apparatus.

I have come across this phenomenon before.

arabian19, you must be referring to the part where the Death Star is destroyed.

Apparently the destruction of the Death Star reminds you of Mecca and the Kabbah...."loool"

Arabian19, commenting on comment 7:

eddie, I really think you represent radical thoughts and infected by the biased news syndrome

Care to name a single inaccurate fact in Eddie's comment? Can you prove it's wrong? We've got lots more examples of Islamic intolerance and disrespect of other cultures:

  • The destruction of 59 Jerusalem synagogues after 1948 and the desecration the space afterward.

  • After 1948 Jordan's using Jewish tombstones to make toilets and paving blocks.

  • After the 1929 Arab massacre of the remaining 66 Jews of Hebron -- one of the four cities that had a continuous Jewish community since before the Roman destruction of the Temple and the exile in 66 CE -- to turn it into a market place.

  • The Waqf's use of bulldozers on the Temple Mount in order to destroy priceless world-heritage archaeological artifacts that document the ancient Jewish presence, along with other periods

  • The frequent denial of Jewish claims to Jerusalem despite the fact that J"m is not mentioned in Islamic prayers and is referred to only once, in passing, in a single Surah. On the other hand, Jews face Jerusalem when praying and Jewish prayer and the Halakhah, Jewish law, are permeated -- absolutely saturated -- with references to Jerusalem and the land of Israel. For Jews, Jerusalem is holy because it's Jerusalem, our ancient (and current) capital. The Temples were built in Jerusalem because it's a holy place. In contrast, Jerusalem is holy in Islam because of the mosque Sulamein built there on the ruins of the ancient Temple, as a sign of Islamic dominance over the vanquished and mostly exiled Jews.

  • The Taliban's recent destruction of the ancient Buddha statues at Bamyan

  • In Turkey, the ongoing of ancient Armenian monuments, Armenian cultural artifacts that may predate Christianity.

  • Christian Philipino guest workers in Saudi Arabia are not permitted to pray or have bibles or crucifixes, let alone build a church. Contrast that with all the Saudi funded mosques being built in the US and Europe, or even that the internees are fed Halal food, given time for the five daily prayers, and the direction to Mecca is clearly indicated.

I'll stop there with that short list, a list that could easily be expanded. On the other hand, we can also point to the great tolerance and respect Israel has always had for Christian and Muslim holy sites. Can give us corresponding examples of tolerance and respect by Muslim societies -- other than subordinating "people of the book" to second-class status as dhimmis, meaning that Christians and Jews lived in Muslim countries by forbearance, not by right, and subject to discriminatory taxes and laws.

If you are interested in honest dialogue, you owe it to yourself and us to be better informed. Don't just parrot the propaganda, lies and disinformation you were indoctrinated with. Present facts, not dogma or baseless accusations.

#11 arabian19:

the foreign affairs minister Tzipi Livn said yesterday that deporting the arabs from jeruslem (arabs of 48) is important in the process of making israel a jewish state.

Tzipi Livni is a ridiculous Leftist, not a nationalist; she and people who think like her are part of the problem, not the solution. It doesn't surprise me that she, as a post-Zionist, would denigrate the legitimate, Zionist cause, the national liberation movement of the Jewish people, or deny the truth of the Jewish narrative. In fact, many Arabs left in 1948 despite pleas from their Jewish neighbors to stay. This has been well-documented, especially in Haifa, which today is still a mixed city. (How many mixed cities are there in Arab or Muslim countries where people from the different groups work together and get along?)

You've got it exactly backwards. In fact, it was not the Arabs who were deported from Jerusalem but the Jews. We lost the old city, only holding on to the new city, in the West, built by Jews after the Jewish population grew too large to be accommodated in the old city. And what about the perhaps 1,000,000 Jews whose property was confiscated and who were driven out of Arab countries?

#12 Arabian 19:

[various barely intelligible slurs and defamation, along with absurd charges of Apartheid and cruelty by Israelis]

I'd love to see the quote itself, not your distortions of a second- or third-hand account of what she said.

As to the relative harshness of Israel's nonviolent defensive measures (security barrier, checkpoints), listen to what Simon Deng has to say elsewhere in another post on this blog. You consistently confuse cause and effect. The barrier and checkpoints were set up only in 2002, in response to the relentless use of terror as a tactic in the war to eliminate Israel. This was some eight years after the Palestinian Arabs suffered under their corrupt, kleptocratic and feckless PA government imposed on them by the Oslo Accords, which redeemed a terrorist who'd been sidelined in Tunis and brought him back to center-stage.

If you look into it, you'll see that prior to the creation of the PA, the Arabs' lot had been improving as measured in per-capita income, infant mortality, life expectancy and other objective measures. It all went downhill after Arafat and his thugs were foolishly installed and armed by delusional Israelis.

By the way, Simon's remarks also shed more light on the question of Muslim tolerance and respect for non-Muslims. (Hell, Muslims don't even tolerate or respect each other. Sunnis and Shiites call eath other infidels. Islamists claim that they're the moderates and that the people who call themselves moderate Muslims and speak out against them are not Muslims.)

As some wag put it, what we're dealing with here is not the clash of civilizations, but the "civilization" of clashes.

Noga: Your observation in #13 is right on the money. I'm outta here.
