I hear it's playing to big crowds.  One local gentleman named Matt attended the screening of a film called "The Iron Wall," and has an open letter addressed to the lady behind him who berated him for his questioning the propagandistic nature of the offering: To the Woman Five Rows Behind Me at the Boston Palestine Film Festival This Evening

...In your righteousness, however, you missed one crucial fact. My question was never meant to undermine the cause of Palestine. It was meant to undermine the tactics that continue to poison our debate over Palestine. Until people hear the truth, and not propaganda, Palestine will never receive sympathy from the West.

You and I have the same vision, dear woman. We both envision an independent and democratic Palestine existing alongside Israel. Where we diverge is in how to rally the world to this cause. You adore a film decrying the situation in Palestine as “apartheid,” declaring that Israel controls foreign media and governments, and featuring a Palestinian man in his basement ranting about how Israel wants to eliminate the Arab population in Palestine. I prefer the truth: that Israel is trying to secure itself, albeit in a misguided way, and that Palestine is fighting for a state of independence...

(My emphasis) I would be willing to bet you, Matt, with no more info than what you have provided, that you are 100% incorrect about that bolded portion. I look forward to any reply you receive.

Thanks for the new perspective, Solomon. I have not yet received a response, which perhaps means you are spot-on in your suggestion about the true nature of this woman's criticisms. Where are the moderate people who are capable of making a good point without resorting to lies, distortions of the truth, and hatred?

Hi Matt,

I was confident in what I said based on what I know about the activist type that would show up at such an event. I've seen these people in action at almost every Israel-oriented event I've attended, read their signs, heard their slogans, read their web sites, their emails...the biggest mouths shouting about "justice" for Palestine are not interested in a two state solution. Israel is the little Satan for them (you know who the big Satan is). It must be erased. The most "moderate" circulate ideas of one-state solutions that sound like they were lifted straight out of Marxist tracts written before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The language of Human Rights is a cynical tool in their hands. No one on that side who favors two states side by side in peace would shout you down for asking an innocent question.

it is sad that what Hitler did to Jews is now repeated on the defenceless palestinian. In the name of unfair demogracy backed by America isreal have the right to justify the killings of palestinians. The int.court for justice is now under the dictate of america and their selfish allies. Why cant the court that should grant justice for all investigate the war crime committed by isreal on their own perogative.
Isreal so small in population has nuclear capabilities, but yet the west denies certain countries of technological advancement. For where there is no truth, cheating and abuse is inevitable.I strongly believe this is the entrenchment taking by hard linners for justice.

I have read a lot about the u.n since it establishment. But can say without any doubt, that the so call u.n has fail society till date.Because it is run by countries that have special interest, affiliations and super powers. it does not take decisions from a clear perspective. The so call u.n backed the independence of east timor and now kosovo. why cant it be palestine. As the late president nkrumah said. I quote.....The independent of these countries will be meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of palestine. The west should understand that society is dynanic with different or various views. This is the time for the u.n not to sharkle its responsibilitis on palestine

boakye, and sad that the Israelis (aka INFIDELS, "kuffars", JOOOZ) are NOT the unarmed Jews of WW2 europe. Eh?

I hope some islamofascist regime doesn't trigger a retaliatory nuke attack on mecca/makka.

I really do.

boakye, AND the thousands of rockets flying OUT of gaza, into Israel, and the AK47's, suicide bombers, stabbings, racist paleswinian TV kiddie show, prove how full of crap you and nkrooma are.

Tell us about robert mugabe too and his strangely familar moustache, and idi amin.

Boakye, there is no similarity whatsoever to Hitler's genocide of millions of Jews etc and the situation of the Palestinians.

It's unfortunate that people can't make the distinction between being dead because of your ethnic or religious identity and belonging to a people that are at war, who've actively chosen to make war against other people in this case Israel.

The Palestinians and other Arab groups and states decided to make war on the Jews. The Jews and Israeli Arabs so far have managed to survive for the most part. So have the Arabs including the group now known as "Palestinians".

The Arab population in 1948 was about 50 million. Now it is 300 million. The Palestinian Arab population has boomed also. Check the population numbers for Gaza, as an example. Wiped out they are not being.

The number of Jews in the entire world is still a couple million short of where it was in the early 1930's.

"Dead" and "alive" are not the same thing and there's a difference between "war" and "genocide".

If the Palestinians want to live in peace and prosperity and form a state, it's really a pretty simple process forward, starting with a sincere visit to the peace table and recognizing Israel's right to exist.

PS I agree the UN has failed miserably. They ignore horrendous human rights violations in order to focus on Israel which as you point out is really tiny and also, obviously, at war all the time from supposedly peaceful Arabs and others who continue to try and wipe it out, wipe out 7 million people and take their home and debase their religion and their culture, their history and their nation.

Now THAT'S like what Hitler did.
