Jennifer Hsu, big mouth (note the name of the pic file): jenn-beirut.jpg

Jennifer Hsu is currently the Festival Director for the San Diego Women Film Festival, and a video documentary-maker. She has an activist art media focus that pervades her work, and she works in the name of feminism, Arabism and the civil liberties movement. Her most recent video project, a collaboration with her partner, Jeremy Taylor, centers on Palestinian and Iraqi refugees living in Yarmouk...

Hsu, a "Boycott Israeler" spoke out of turn for her festival. A statement front and center on the festival's web site reads:

A statement was given by the San Diego Women's Film Festival Director in support of the Boycott of Israeli films. The San Diego Women Film Foundation and Festival would like to apologize to all in the community - we are embarrassed and horrified to learn such a position was taken without our knowledge or consent. It is the personal view of the Festival Director and not the view of the San Diego Women Film Foundation and we in no way support, sponsor or condone their statements. Furthermore, the mission of the San Diego Women Film Foundation is to empower, promote and mentor young women and women filmmakers by developing opportunities to expose the art of filmmaking and to tell women's stories to broad and diverse audiences. We do not promote or take a position with any political or religious issues.

For the record, the San Diego Women Film Foundation and Festival is NOT boycotting Israeli films. We are hopeful that filmmakers from the Israeli community will continue to submit films. Actions regarding the Festival Director will be dealt with internally. Again, our deepest and most sincere apologies. If you have any comments or questions, please email us at comments@sdwff.org.

Score one for the American Jewish Committee (AJC). After questioning the San Diego Women's Film Festival's announcement that it would be boycotting films from Israel at its upcoming fifth annual celebration October 4th through the 7th, sponsoring organization San Diego Women's Film Foundation has posted a contrite apology on its website...

You really have to keep an eye on these fanatics, especially if you hire them to run something.

Good for the SDWFF, and extra kudos to it for the direct apology (not one of those mealy-mouthed, "I'm sorry if you were offended" non-apologies).

BHG

"feminist" and "Arabist" at the same time, eh? Someone send this moonbat off for a stint cooking and cave-keeping for the Taliban.

We all know that LEFTIST, PROGRESSIVE, SOCIALIST, QUEER CHICKS who support "PaleSWINE" and who get HYSTERICAL if you call them "honey", "baby", "toots", "mama", or stare at them or don't pay them as much as a man, I wonder how they will react if they fully immerse themselves in the "Islamic" World for an extended period where they have to cover their face, body, walk BEHIND a man, can't drive, can't work outside the home, be beaten or killed for insulting your families "honor", be subject to the whim of the Koran thumping "religious police".

Jennifer Hsu "baby", lets see you adopt the life of a woman in a country ruled by Mohammeds Sharia law.

Tell us which World is better for a woman. Tell us which country you would boycott over oppression of womens rights.

1) You must have Javascript enabled in your browser in order to comment (blame the spammers). If you don't know what that is, you're probably fine.

2) HTML is on, so basic html should work. Raw links will be made auto-clickable, too, so even if you don't know html you can just paste in the link and it should work fine. Keep the "http://" in it.

3) Comments are generally unmoderated, which means I don't necessarily agree with the tone and tenor of everything posted. In fact, sometimes people post things they don't really mean just to make other people look bad. The internet is an anonymous place for the most part. That said...

4) I welcome you to post here. I'd love to have your input, agree, disagree or just offer a different data point, really. If I didn't want any participation, I'd turn off comments. It may pay to recall a famous line from the Tom Selleck magnum opus, Mr. Baseball: "Jack-san, you want Yoji's advice about the babes, you come to Yoji with respect."

5) Enjoy your stay!

"No Western intellectual thinks fascism and communism are the same, nor does anyone with a literary sensibility argue that a James Patterson thriller and a Don DeLillo novel are similar just because they are both prose fictions; yet this same intelligentsia is content to believe that all religions are fundamentally the same."
