By now you're aware that Columbia U has honored the Iranian schmuck by inviting him to address the students because no view is too disreputable to be excluded. Does Columbia really need to see this in person: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: Zionists Cause Turmoil in the World to Prevent Europeans from Eradicating Them

You may not know about Columbia's Nazi shame:

...In 1933, Nazi Germany's ambassador to the United States, Hans Luther, was invited to speak on the Columbia campus.

[Then Columbia president Nicholas Murray] Butler hosted a reception for the Nazi ambassador, whose remarks were devoted to defending Hitler's "peaceful intentions" toward the rest of Europe. Butler said that as a representative of "the government of a friendly people," Luther was "entitled to be received with the greatest courtesy and respect."

Columbia, like many American universities, continued its program of student exchanges with Germany even after the Nazis came to power.

In 1936, President Butler sent a delegate to take part in anniversary celebrations at the Nazi-controlled University of Heidelberg. He did so even though the university had already fired all of its Jewish instructors, implemented a curriculum based on Nazi ideology, and even was host to a mass book-burning.

Butler defended his decision on the grounds that "academic relationships have no political implications." But Columbia students disputing that claim at the time held a mock book-burning on campus and a peaceful rally in front of Butler's residence...

At least the City is trying to keep him away from a photo-op at Ground Zero.

As far as the professoriat goes, The Elder of Ziyon has the background of shame, here. As an interesting side tid-bit, Nadia Abu El Haj is a dhimmi Christian whose family owns the Christmas hotel in East Jerusalem.

Update: Lionpac's statement on Ahmadinejad's visit:

We think it was a mistake for our administration to invite such a despicable man to our campus and give him the respect of our podium. However, now that he has been invited, our only recourse is to challenge him in the free and open environment that has been afforded to us as students in the American university system. Along with many other student groups, we will be speaking out against him both in and outside the event on Monday.

Very informative post. Thanks. Seem that anti-semitism is nothing new at Columbia.

Here's my post about the Dinnerjacket/Columbia story:

U.S. Troop Murdering, Genocide Threatening, Anti-Semite, Holocaust Denier Ahmadinejad at Columbia University

http://antiracistblog.blogspot.com/2007/09/us-troop-murdering-anti-semite.html

Yeah, but Ahmadinejad won't really come here, right? I mean, the State Department wouldn't let him in.

Fabulous post. I had no idea that Columbia had such a desultory history with respect to Jew-Haters.

Obviously, there is a long history of coddling dictators at that "institute of higher learning".

Any Jewish graduates of Columbia should seriously consider never donating money to the school as long as Dhimmi Bollinger is in charge over there.

#1,

How is inviting him a sign of antisemitism? Sure, the man has horrible rhetoric in that regard, but this is an academic forum. He will have to defend his views, which are entirely absurd and full of hate, from some of the brightest minds in our country. I, personally, think this might serve to either humble the man or at least give him the idea that we really just don't like him.

all that we know of this man comes from media controlled directly or indirectly by people sympathetic to israel. some of them are american citizens but their hearts are with israel. no problem as long as american interests and israeli interests coincide, but it is absurd o think what is good for israel is always good for us. and there is an aparthied in israel. you just need a trip to jeraselum to realise that. ahmednejad maybe a bad man by our standards but he is much better than rulers in saudi, pakistan, syria, zimbabwe, egypt, burma,...the list is endless. at least he was elected by people of iran. so much for democracy and high american ideals
