Norm Geras: The choices before Amnesty - 'News that Moazzam Begg has withdrawn from an event put on by Amnesty in which he was to have participated throws an interesting light on the question of what the organization will now do in response to the criticism it has received since suspending Gita Sahgal. On the face of it, Amnesty has two clear choices. It can recognize its original error in teaming up with people of an ideological outlook not notably supportive of human rights, state that recognition clearly, and be more careful in its choice of allies from now on. Alternatively, it could persist in the error and carry on as before. The initial signs have not been encouraging...'
